We did it back during Cohen’s coaching time to try and gain speed with the way we were playing at that time, which changed in 2015. And cut down on wear/tear.

I think we should keep the turf for the warning track. But yeah time for home plate and the basepaths to go.

My seats are right there. It was done because that’s a perpetually shady area until later in the season and the grass could not recover. It was very slick and muddy most of the time.
