Can anyone explain to me the thinking behind the 14" x 14" x 8" bag policy? My mom was accosted by event staff for the offense of trying to carry a bag that held our stadium cushions into Davis Wade which was obviously an offense worse than murder.

I'm also curious who in their right mind though turning minimum wage event staff workers into cops was a good idea.

I have a cousin that brought his 3 year old in with a backpack. They were told they couldn't bring it in because it "had straps on it". So he proceeded to take his knife out of his pocket and cut off the straps. They were then allowed in.

when my boys were toddlers, i often contemplated bringing a 5th of jack in one of my sons spiderman backpacks and making him carry it in. i never had the balls to do it but i always wondered, would this make me a bad parent?

They've gone pretty crazy over some of their crap, I'll be honest. Seeing that cowbells are now legal, strip searches of all items isn't necessary and it shouldn't take 30 minutes to stand in line at any gate of a 55,000 seat stadium. We tend to have a knack for hiring the blow hard type of Barney Fife's who put an Event Staff shirt on and feel their importance.

I'm guessing they are trying to prevent people from bringing in huge bags and taking up more space at their seat than needed. And does your seats= cushion really need to be brought in in a bag?

Knowing Starkville PD- they would probably arrest your child and throw him in prison for for MIP. That would not look good on the private school entrance resume.

2 year old's PEZ confiscated..

They confiscated the candy from my 2 year old's PEZ dispenser. I am not even kidding. I thought it was kind of funny in an over the top, rent-a-cop kind of way until I realized that my wife was on the verge of completely losing it and possibly getting arrested. I did not email Stricklin, by the way.

I've got no real complaint with the bag policy itself, i.e. size of it and

searching it, etc. They have posted it on the Game Day website and information was also included in the season ticket package so if you get stopped and you are oversize, shame on you. What I have a problem(s) with is the inconsistent enforcement of it. Last season you could go to one ticket taker and they would fully search the bag, dump contents, frisk you, etc. Or, you could move a couple slots down and that one wasn't even paying any attention to it whatsoever. The other problem I had was when I would have my small cinch sack and they would tell me I couldn't take it in (big enough for binoculars, radio, roster and cramming a jacket into) yet there were women with these huge shoulder bags that were waltzing right on it with no interruption. Pisses me off too when there are huge long lines in a dozen or so entry points, yet there are half a dozen entries with NOBODY in line, the Will Call lines or athletes line, talking specifically about the East side South entry.

already emailed and was told that backpacks are now allowed as long as they fit within the 14x14x8. Was told the same thing and had to turn around at the gate and take my child's backpack back to the tailgate. After I got to my seat a guy came walking up with one the size of my 3 year old. Strick emailed the guy "in charge" and sent me a carbon copy. below is his response.

Thanks Jason for writing. Backpacks are permitted into the stadium, as long as they fit into the size restrictions you mentioned. We did have an issue with some members of the Event Operations Group turning customers away with backpacks, and I have copied Brent Frey, who oversees our football game operations. Since backpacks have been illegal in past years -- and we mention on tickets and stadium signage that they are prohibited -- we had some folks operating by the old rules, despite being informed otherwise. He will follow up with EOG before next weekend.

The backpack was holding the kid's DVD player for when she got bored.

Understand the rules, but don't understand why the bag suddenly was okay after the straps were cut off. And why is the guy more worried about straps on a bag than the knife used to cut them off? (I know, I know- just making an analogy).

Well, because we have 4 of them and it's hard to carry them all in separately. We also bring in rain gear, some towels and fans, all of which fit easily in the bag we usually carry. I've been going to Mississippi State games for about 40 years now and I can never, ever recall someone's bag being an issue. Not to mention we had an extra ticket, so we had a nice expensive seat just for the bag if it needed it.

This goes right to the point. If I can't recall bags being a problem and I've NEVER heard it discussed before, then why the need for the rule? Why do we have to make the minimum wage event staff be the ******* TSA all of a sudden and who in their right mind thought that would be a good idea? If someone is bringing a suitcase into the stadium then deal with that but these idiotic bag size rules just don't make any sense to me. And if a bag is sooooo dangerous then why are we allowed to bring bags and coolers and stuff into the baseball stadium? I would bet one of my nuts this has something to do with making a few extra bucks off the people who already pay a whole lot of bucks.

I've really wanted to like Scott but it's starting to seem that he is so concerned with chasing the dollar he doesn't actually give a damn about the PEOPLE who make this whole thing work. I hope I'm wrong about that but it seems to be the direction it's headed. It will be interesting to see how bad they try to gouge us on the reseat, I bet it's bad.

He just said that no outside food was allowed, which I completely understand. But to take a kid's candy...that's just plain old communism. All we had was the freaking candy. Not a bag full of goodies. I'm sure there will be some changes going forward.

Man I think I'd have to go to jail on that one. Like I posted, I noticed an attitude amongst the event staff that borderlines on ridiculous. To pay what we pay for tickets and to now have to buy your son a ticket since every body in the stands requires a ticket, then have his pez taken of all things is insanity. I would have either gone to jail or had someone's ***. Seriously man, this is just plain wrong.

Thats the most insane thing I've ever heard. Last year they didn't even look in our diaper bag. I'd have raised major hell if they tried to make us throw out his snacks. I've never been arrested, but something as stupid as that might push me over the edge.

At the LSU game last year

my aunt decoyed event staff. She walked to the gate with a ziploc of old oatmeal cookies in her hand. When she got to the staffer working her line she asked if they were going to make her throw away the cookies. When he said she would have to she tossed them in the garbage and walked in...with two ziplocs of fresh cookies and snacks in her bag that they never even looked in.

Again, over 40 years of MSU games and I can never recall not being able to get down the aisle because of a bag. Could you regale us with your horror story of MSU games where the bags were such a detriment? I would sincerely like to know if someone has experienced this as a major issue.

And let me say that I sincerely hope that the issue is space, because if someone tries to claim it is security at a place where they request we all bring foot-long steel clubs I may snap.

I heard your cousin's story. That's ridiculous. There is no logical reason for the transformation of the bag from contraband to legal simply by cutting the straps.

I had my 2 year old at the game, and took a backpack for his diaper bag for the day. When I got to the gate, I noticed at least three signs saying "no backpacks". Luckily for me, I had a sensible lady checking bags. She looked at it, and at me holding my little one, and said "Do you have baby stuff in there?" I answered yes, and we were good to go. If they would've told me to cut the straps, I'd have lost it.
