They seem to be pushing them because they got the short end of the National Championship game stick last year, and they always blow out whoever they play. They also never seem to bring up ridiculously easy schedule this year, which I thought I saw something this weekend that Texas going into last weekend has not played an opponent ranked in the top 20.

If they happened to beat a top 10 team, we could just stop the football season and declare them champions.

Same goes for Cincinnati, were they to beat a top 20 team.

And they have won their games this season by an average score of 42-14.

I wouldn't mind having those kinds of reasons for a lovefest.

of mad cow disease the rest of the national media has.

Judging by your criteria, why not put Boise State (8-0, outscoring opponents 41-14) or TCU (8-0, outscoring opponents 35-11) right up there with Texas? I'm not saying I want these teams ranked highly, but you can argue that both these non-BCS schools have schedules similar in strength to Texas' weak-*** schedule. Hell, at least Boise State beat Oregon.

Guess the big 12 is still riding that wave from last year. They sure are down this year.

Even though I don't think the Big 12 is anywhere near as difficult as the SEC, it is quite ridiculous that you would compare their schedule with Boise State and TCU. Actually, if you look at some strength of schedule rankings such as this one (Strength of Schedule) you will see that even though Texas is ranked at 21, they are still ahead of Alabama in SOS.

You are correct that the media has more control over the rankings that team performance or SOS, I'm not arguing that point at all. But unfortunately right now, until there is a playoff system this is the system we are stuck with and style points combined with reputation will still keep a team like Texas at the top.
