TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A piece of history from the University of
Alabama's championship run was shattered on Saturday afternoon following
the Crimson Tide's annual A-Day scrimmage.</p><div class="mod-inline image image-right"><div style="margin-left:10px; width:300px;">[+] Enlarge <div style="width: 300px;"><cite>Andy Lyons/Getty Images</cite>Alabama's
$30,000 crystal BCS trophy shattered into little pieces on Saturday
when a player's father tripped on a rug and knocked over the display
table.</div></div></div>

The Coaches' Trophy from this season's
BCS national title was accidentally knocked off its podium and
shattered by a player's father whose foot got caught on a rug that sits
beneath the trophy display. The Waterford Crystal trophy was on display
in the Mal Moore Athletic Facility halls, home to coach Nick Saban's
office and other athletic personnel.</p>

The handmade trophy sculpted
in Ireland is valued at $30,000. The university previously had two such
trophies, one at the Paul W. Bryant Museum and the other at the athletic
facility. A university spokesman confirmed that they will immediately
begin the process of replacing the trophy.</p>

but died in the AD's office. Yeah, the player's father probably better to make a sizable donation to the slush fund, and soon.

They will file for insurance on the glass ball, and then they will sell the broken glass pieces,
like it was stadium turf, or something like that.

I can't believe I live in a world where $30,000 trophies are given for winning an amateur national title. Meanwhile there are starving kids in Africa twice the physical specimen of anyone on that team wearing 2012 LSU national champions t-shirts while running from packs of lions.

and we don't have one to break yet. But you'd think that Bama, even though they have a closet-full of the things, would use museum gel or something to glue them down. And not set it out within reach of small prying hands and players' parents ....

It will apply for a medical redshirt, which is expected to be granted.

A newer, stronger, more expensive crystal football that is expected to fill in nicely.

starving people/physical behemoths you speak of... <div>
</div><div>It's sad that these people are starving and what not, but it's awesome that we have the means to spend $30,000 on trophies.</div>

...and the Bama Idiots will raise another million for the program. I think they could go further....grind that thing into a million specks, charge $1000 per, and Bammer will have the first Billion Dollar Athletic Department in America.
