unofficial 40s of 4.51 and 4.52. The improvement from the unofficial 4.59 at the combine keeps him in the hunt for the 1st round.

Fingers crossed.

It is much better. If he would have ran that at the combine, he'd probably still be a 1st round pick in all the projections.

How much do NFL teams believe it?

I hope they do, but if I'm an NFL GM, I trust the unbiased electronic combine numbers much more than hand timed numbers from on campus.

I'd trust what I see on film............

especially an SEC player. Unfortunately for Banks, some of the film won't be so favorable.

Actually, it makes me wonder how much of a factor his leg/ankle inury was throughout the second half of the season. The guy didnt win the Thorpe award for nothing. Is he lightening fast? Nope. Does he have incredible instrincts? I think so. Does he have prototypical NFL "length"? Hell yes. Something was not right with him during the second half of the season and I dont think its attributable to just "SEC play."

I agree with you.......

I thought he was playing hurt. I also thought that some of the defensive play calling was a result of the coaches trying to hide it.

I think he was playing not to get hurt

And it showed badly. Hard to blame him once he got that big scare.

Ask Kendall Wright

Guess what he ran at the combine --- 4.61

Pro day he ran mid 4.4s

1st round draft pick

Somewhat of a thread hijack:

I actually think Banks is perfectly suited for Bill Belichick and New England. Belichick has made a living off drafting/signing two types of players: (1) hybrids/tweeners, and (2) very specific skill sets. I amnot suggesting the two are mutually exclusive, but the guy just knows what pieces he needs to fit his puzzle.

Banks doesnt have the blazing CB speed and he may be a little light to play S; but the guy is a damn good football player. Whether he goes in the first round or the fifth, I am confident Banks is going to do well in the NFL and in life.

Banks came to State as a sure-fire first rounder, but Melvin screwed him up. He ran a 4.3 in high school.

They do and did. The scouts times ranged from 4.51 to 4.55.

Regarding which time they should believe, they could be thinking that he ran slow at the combine because he was nervous/stiff and he was ready to go at his Pro Day. As someone else pointed out, it's happened before with Kendall Wright and tons of other kids.

I think he ran his way back into the first round today. I think Slay will go in the second. Boyd may go 4th or 5th and Bumphis may go 6th or 7th.

Agreed on all...

It's also pretty telling how little attention that Lawrence is getting IMO...

Everyone runs a "4.3" in high school. Rule of thumb: take 2" off the listed height, 15-20 pounds off the listed weight, and add 0.3-0.4 to the listed 40 time and that's your real high school prospect.

Some guy from Northern Iowa ran a 4.19 at Minnesota's pro day. I think that says all that needs to be said about the accuracy of 40 times at pro days.
