Draft insider Tony Pauline believes it is "not out of the question" that Miss State CB Darius Slay gets selected before teammate Johnthan Banks.

Pauline says that Slay "significantly elevated" his draft stock at the Combine. We aren't exactly sure how, since his tape was already solid, but the fact that Pauline is hearing Slay could go ahead of Banks is telling. The latter measured in light and ran a slower than expected forty.

interesting ... I can't fabricate an argument to refute the logic but I will say there is much more to playing the position other than just pure speed ... I hope they both go close to each other

While there is more to it than speed, running a 4.6 as a corner is akin to running 4.8 as a linebacker. Not gonna cut it. I am reasonably sure that all perennial pro bowl corners ran 4.5 or faster. To run as slow as Banks did and to be successful as an NFL corner, you need to play press man like the Seattle guys. I cannot recall Banks ever playing press man and he's certainly not physical enough at the moment to do so.

I think Banks goes to Seattle and I think he and Richard Sherman have already been speaking/tweeting each other. At his height it'd be awesome for him to get mentored by Sherman. Maybe Slay can follow Revis to whichever team signs him.

I'd like that. Sort of been rooting for Seattle due to Pete Carroll and K.J. Wright. They are an up and coming franchise and will be good for years to come.

I'm just surprised that people thought Banks was faster than he really is. I can remember back in 2009 against GA Tech - he got embarrassed back there at safety. I thought at the time that he didn't have what it would take to be a good DB simply because I thought he was too slow.

He totally proved me wrong. But the fact remains that he doesn't have blazing speed. Never has. We even saw him get beat deep a few times this year. But he's an incredible football player. He's got something, I don't know what it is... maybe just natural instincts or something like that. He's been making amazing plays since he stepped on the field at MSU. And he'll have a long successful NFL career if he can stay healthy regardless of where he gets drafted.

But I do hope he has a better time on pro day and gets back in the first round talk.

No, you got the wrong guy. That was Anderson and Toast getting burned back there by them. Banks didn't start until later on, which ironically our secondary got much better.

I think everyone who was bitching about how we played our corners too soft this season should understand one reason why.

I personally wonder if Banks is yet fully healthy. I'm telling you he just hasn't looked the same since that interception return against MTSU where he got his knee dinged.

I'm pretty sure he came in second half and just chased guys around. Only reason is because my wife went to east webster so I'd been watching him since highschool. And I'd swear we had a conversation about him getting to play in that game. But it was 4 years ago... so I could be getting things mixed up.

I don't know. Julio Jones dominated with a broken foot when he was at the combine.

Ran into Ian Rapoport of NFL network this weekend and asked about Banks falling out of first round. He said no, that you don't find too many corners as tall as him and that will make up for 40 time.
Plus he has good tape that show his incredible ball skills. I think he goes late in the first round to Seattle or NYG.
Didn't ask where he thought Slay would go, but I bet late second. Very impressive list of draftees for Coach Mullen
