Much closer drive than Corbin or Knoxville. Is hard liquor still available up in Cumberland? Coal Town rocked back in the day.

I'm looking forward to Barbourville being wet.

Closer drive than Corbin, and I don't like spending my money in Tennessee.

Still closer for Middlesboro folks just to hit Pappy's.
When I visit back home, I usually spend 4-5 nights in Shawanee and have walked to Pappy's many times from there. Got some great pics of the buffalo across from BP on Hwy 58.

Grew up about 2 miles from Pappys up in Virginia. Good people.

Almost exactly 3 years after that P.O.S. drunk driver/3-time loser/driving under a suspended license crossed the median, went airborne, killed himself and took out a young married couple and the bride's parents on Christmas Eve in Knox County.

But hey! Cheers!

more people die each while not drunk than from being drunk.

BRIGHT SIDE!!!!

Seriously, no problem with them going wet. I just found it ironic that the place in which that horrible, completely preventable accident occurred went wet almost 3 years to the day of it happening there. I blame the judges and the legal system for letting that dude out of jail way too soon and doing nothing to deter him from a 4th DUI or what he ultimately did. Hell, if Barbourville had been wet in the first place, maybe he doesn't kill them that night.

She was one of my good friends growing up and her mother and father were great people. Unfortunately, their loss was too much for her brother to bear and he ended up killing his wife and himself on Valentine's Day this year.

Dry or wet, that'll still happen. There's always a jackass who will ruin it for the rest of us. But, just like with guns, you can't go banning them for everyone because one person messed up.

I would argue drunken driving is worse in a dry county because people who have to drive 40 miles to purchase a LEGAL product will drink some on their way back into the 1920s. But if the store is only 5 minutes from home, they probably can wait until they get back to safety before cracking open a cold one.

The county I live in came out of the stone age in 2011. The religious folks were predicting gloom and doom and death and end times and all that other crap. DUIs went up the first year and have decreased significantly each subsequent year. In other words, blue laws are trash and achieve the exact opposite of what they're trying to accomplish.

Visited Pappy's for the first time ever this past weekend. Still blows my mind how many dry/moist-only areas remain in this country.
Pappy's craft beer selection is okay. Must watch out there for old stuff on the shelf past the "Drink before such-and-such date". I got burned 2 years ago.

Actually stop there on the way from work every Friday to stock up for the weekend.

They've really expanded that place.
Yes, they have. My daughter worked at Oasis about 6 years ago. Nephew performs there with his band 1-2x per month.

Barvul used to have a great local home-cooking-type restaurant right off of 25E. I believe it was called Traveller's Inn. Is that joint still around?

I knew that family and it was a horrific crime. The parents had just picked their son and daughter in law up at the airport in Lexington and was heading to Harlan Co.

I hardly ever drink and never excessively since my younger days, but this small towns, especially EKY, are scrounging for every dollar they can get. Whether the end justifies the means is debatable, but I can understand why they do it.

Travelers Inn has been gone many years now. Two big local business men owned that property. One of them died many years ago in a car crash on the Mountain Parkway and the other flipped a lawn mower at his house around Easter a a few years back and was killed. Really sad. Will be interesting to see if Barbourville can see some growth from this vote. It is a pretty good small town and a revitalized downtown would be nice. It might turn into a nice college town. I bet Union students will be very happy.

I usually grab me a cheeseburger box from Tommy's.

But if you want Chinese you have to go to Corbin.

Used to stop there for breakfast on our way to Lexington on game day. Pretty good grub.

Does any other State still have dry areas? How ridiculous is that in 2016. Kentucky, for all it's beauty and basketball, is one of the most backwards states in the nation.

Texas and Arkansas are among states which still have dry counties. Here's a list.

I agree. Crazy.
