Barry or Cam?

Brunetti will not consider us if we get Cam.

I think the answer to the poll is a no-brainer. Brunetti may be talented, but he is in no way ready to step in and start next year. Cam makes an immediate impact at our weakest position. Further, I have all the faith in the world that Mullen will either have Tyler ready take over when Cam is gone, or bring in someone else that will.

Obviously, I prefer Cam. Assuming he will turn out to be great given all the pub he's getting.

Barry Brunetti - Not knowing too much about him and just by looking at the photo of him on BDJ, kind of looks like a clone of Romarro Miller (sorry for the reb reference). Probably a good, decent, serviceable SEC QB but not great. Also, I think he's listed at 6' tall so at least he meets the min. ht of seeing over the line. I think maybe Rom Miller was under 6', can't remember. Plus, Brunetti is a 2 dimensional threat to run and pass. Think Rom Miller was purely a drop back passer in high school and at om.

until I see where we won't.

i do agree if we get Cam we won't get Barry or atleast that limits our chances...

If we sign Cam, I wouldn't mind taking a flyer Favre I know he is small, but I have also seen his uncle play and where you are telling Russell look you are still our guy we are just getting some insurance incase of injuries and we want to have you fully prepared for your Jr. year so we don't miss a beat and you will play some the next 2 yrs to get experience... Aaron Rodger camp Russell... matt barkley is all i need to see to be worried about a rs fr taking the reins of this program...

Wish List
Cam and a 4star raw HS that can RS < US > 2 star that needs polishing and time

That and the fact that if we don't get Brunetti, we're not getting a good HS QB. There aren't any left.

Hutson Mason is on the list too, but he may be lured away by another SEC school. Dylan Favre scares the crap out of me, but I hope he goes to USM and fairs well trying to live up to the legacy.

Me personally,

I want Cam b/c I think he can come in and play immediately. Russell will gain valuable experience in non pressure situations early. By his Junior year he'll be the man.

I always would rather have a HS player (assuming the HS player is good) over the JUCO guy. To change the names, would you have rather had Pernell McPhee last year or Fletcher Cox? I would have said Cox. Now I believe if Newton comes he'll probably start and that's fine. If he's the best player, I want him on the field. Period. But this was simply about who would you rather have, not involving Russell.

On a side note, how does one gain "valuable experience" in a "non-pressure" situation? That is the difference between practice and games, pressure. That's the experience you need guys to develop.

I like Newton. It made me sick to see Mullen come in and coach up our current team and do wonders with what he had while Tyler Russell was on the bench when he could have been the difference in a winning season or no winning season. Bring Newton in because we have already have a solid QB to develop in Russell, we need one that can play now full time, and one that can get some minutes, develop and ease into the position when the team has strengthened into full quality SEC material. I've heard we're recruiting two QBs. I would assume that to mean a JUCO and a frosh. But you get Cam, you don't get Brunetti. You perhaps get a Hutson Mason or similar who might come with the prospect that they may compete against Russell later for the job, but the second QB in all reality doesn't matter this year. Maybe wait til next year to recruit a QB and maybe there will be more quality choices.

It sure seems like he needs to be looking at Russell rather than Newton. BTW saw Barry play and was not that impresses at all. He seemed to be able to run OK and did not have that great of an arm. He is listed at 6' so he is more than likely 5' 10". I want somebody that can see LB' roaming around beyond the line of scrimmage.

I'm tired of waiting on guys to get experience, Cam has the experience and is ready to start for us the first game.

rightway, good point...Brunetti would be more likely to decommit and commit to MSU only if Newton came and Russell bolted...Russell would be the x factor for Brunetti...

we're getting a frosh though I think, may be with not up to par SEC talent, but someone capable of being the backup for Russell one day...

what I see is if we don't get Newton, Russell is going to start because I don't see any other QB recruits that we can get to take that away from him.

are not comparable positions. QB is the single most important position on the field. If you can get an impact player there, it could change your whole program.

Wish someone could have told Croom that, but god bless, I don't think even Cam Newton or Tim Tebow could have played well in the west coast offense.

if Crooms were still here next year, we'd probably be starting a still very underdeveloped Chris Relf.

2. I know its about who you would rather have. My question to you is would you rather have A. a guy who seems to be pretty close to being ready to step on the field in the SEC (mind you he already has some experience). B. a guy who isn't close to being ready to step on the field in the SEC (not saying Brunetti isnt good but when he gets here he will not be ready to take over this team). I still don't think Tyler is ready either but in due time I think he will be.

Brunetti knows he's at least two years from seeing much action anyway. If he comes to State or doesn't come to State, it won't have anything to do with Newton, and I know this for a fact.

.........the one we should want at this point in our program. But I can't escape the sick feeling that we won't get either. I hope Mullen is finally the one who changes that.
