Look, I realize that college baseball ranking are practically meaningless, but dropping us out of the rankings makes them look even dumber than they already were. What theyare basically saying is a ranked team that went on the road to the number 3 team in the country, won a game, lost two very close games , and held the most talented team in the country to a team batting average under .150 for the weekend is no longerone of the best 25 teams in the country. Now, how stupid does that sound? It is situations like this that make me wonder and question what exactly ranking mean or even stand for.

by out hitting the #3 team in the country on the road and losing 2 close games.

All of those teams were already ranked ahead of you. They all won their weekend series.

Last one in, first one out.

Still, TODAY, doesn't even know that the SEC has a 10-team conference tournament! #experts

From their weekend recap:

"Mississippi State dropped two of three at Florida and enters the final weekend of SEC play tied with Arkansas and Vanderbilt in the race for the last two spots in the conference tournament"

So you are saying that if we ranked "the best" teams in the country 1-25, we would not be in the top 25 because we lost 2 of 3, all close games, on the road to the number 3 and most talented team?

Do you even think about this stuff or do you just give some run of the mill comment that a 5 yet old could say? Your thoughts indicate that you put about as much thought into sports as my grandmother.

App St took two from Samford
Ole Miss took three from UT
Oregon St took two from Utah
Louisville took two from St Johns

No wonder you don't understand.

I'm saying that it is a poll. It is never the best 25 necessarily, just like in basketball and football.

There will always be teams that get ranked due to having a stellar record in a weak conference. There will always be SEC teams who don't get ranked due to weaker records as a result of playing in the best conference.

Polls aren't RPI or formula. They are polls. They are by humans. They are flawed and biased. Baseball America is one of the worst of these polls. You should understand that too if you have followed for any amount of time. It may even explain why you were ranked in the first place. You weren't even in the top 30 of the other polls. You are barely top 40 in RPI. You crept in via Baseball America at #25 and lost a weekend series. It shouldn't come as a shock that you fell out.

This doesn't mean you are a terrible team or that the other teams that crept in ahead of you are good. I'm just saying that falling from #25 after losing your weekend series shouldn't come as a shock. If you had lost to the Yankees, you'd still have dropped.

I'd say taking 1 of 3 at Florida with 2 close losses is more impressive than taking 2 of 3 from Samford or Utah.

Man, it very difficult explaining myself to an idiot. I understand how polls work, but am saying that it is stupid how they work. Let me put it this way, if Mississippi State played App State in a three game series this weekend at a nuetral site and you had $1,000 dollars to bet on the series, who would you put your money on?

App State, who beat Samford or MSU, who lost 2 close games at Florida?

Hopefully, this helps you comprehend the reasoning.

I was refering to this part of your post: All of those teams were already ranked ahead of you. I figured if I put 'All' in quotes you would have understood that. So anyway if by "All", you mean 2 out of 4 then you are probably right.

And I'd agree, but you and I both understand that the polls don't always work like that.

Personally, I think they looked a lot dumber last week ranking us #25 than they do this week not ranking us. As I've said many times, for the most part college baseball polls aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

...what would you rather have in a sport that has a play-off system?

A #10 ranking without MSU's pitching staff?

Or no ranking with MSU's pitching staff?

I realize that this is overstated, especially on baseball, but the general premise they go by is the high #1's get low #2's, high #3s, and low #4s.

Last year, we got into the GT regional by basically being a low 3 seed(USM a high 2, gt a low 1). We don't want to get sent on the road to play a high national seed in a regional as a 2... Of course, this is less likely, since the sec gets at least 3 of the 8(and deserves 4 IMO)...

After all of that rambling that you just did in this thread, you basically just agreed with the original poster. But yet, you want o call HIM dumb? He said polls are flawed and he gave an example as to how they are flawed. He made a good point.....why move a team that takes a series from some nobody, ahead of a team that takes 1 of 3 from one of the best in the country at their place and had a chance to win all 3 games? We knew it would happen bc polls are like that, but he was simply pointing out an example of how it's flawed.

So now you say that polls are flawed bc humans are involved, and there will always be teams ranked lower or higher than they deserve, yada yada yada, and basically agreed exactly with the original post minus the example. So had it not been an MSU example you would have agreed, but instead felt the need to be a douche and point out that we "barely cracked the top 25 in one poll". Nice try

Let's see...you call me an idiot. He calls me an idiot.

You say I called him dumb, which never happened.

I've got a sneaky feeling that shotgunDawg didn't think the polls were so stupid a week ago.

Look! We're ranked!

They took 2 out of 3 at LSU earlier this year and we went in a few weeks later and lost 2 out of 3.

Also, split with State in basketball. I don't think it would have mattered if we played multiple games in football though.
