Collegiate Baseball - down from #2 to #18
Baseball America - down from #7 to #18
Perfect Game - down from #5 to #10

Personally, I think they're all being very generous to us right now.

I tend to agree. Not so much because of the losses, but due to the fact that we've pretty much looked like garbage so far. We can all debate on whether it's due to youth, not being prepared for the season, or Cohen tinkering with the lineup all day long but at the end of the day, it's poor play no matter how you slice it.

I want to attribute us being 4-4 to us being everybody's Super Bowl when they play us. That won't hold up much longer when other teams look as bad and still own us.

Just so some folks will step away from the ledge, consider these teams records at the beginning of the season who went on to win the World Series that same season:

2010 South Carolina: 6-4
2008 Fresno State: 8-12
2006 Oregon State: 4-4
2004 Cal State Fullerton: 6-8

The thing that I keep thinking about as well is the fact that in spite of our overall mediocre to downright poor play thus far, it's taken a few absolute meltdowns to keep us from being 7-1 or at least 6-2 at this point. Our pitching will be fine and while I have no clue as to what our lineup is going to look like in another month, the good news is that we have a ton of options to keep playing with.

If there's one thing that has me a little concerned right now, it would be that Holder is not getting his fastball by anyone. I don't know whether he's lost some speed or if hitters are just better prepared for him this year, but he's not fooling anyone and he's become nearly entirely reliant on throwing perfect breaking balls in order to strike someone out.
