  • South Alabama has lost 2 straight @ Nebraska
  • Haven't played these guys in 5 years
  • They have 3 batters batting over .300
  • They get hit by pitch quite often
  • Solid bullpen
  • Solid fielding, only a few errors
  • South Alabama plays their home games at Stanky Field

I like some Sun Belt baseball. Some gritty, tough players there with chips on their shoulder. They generally have comparable talent except for the pitching.

It's been strange not playing them. From 1976 to 2020, we played them every year except 2003, 2006 & 2018.

one time they came to Dudy Noble in the late 70's and every player wore a batting helmet while playing the field. These were the ones without ear covers. Every position wearing a red batting helmet with red pin stripes. They swept 2 games from us and they played really good fundamental baseball under Eddie Stanky.

How have we not played them for 5 years? They should be on the schedule every year. Really for at least 2 games.

SIX times in 2017. A 3 game series in Starkville, 1 mid-week in Mobile and then twice in the Hattiesburg Regional.
Just 5. USA was up for one of those 3-team double round robins in Starkville, so just 2 games between MSU and USA and each also played Columbia twice.

I live in Mobile, it’s always fun when we play here. The last two times we played at the Stank, we had more fans that USA did.

I agree.
They come to Starkville for two midweek games and we play them in Biloxi either one for two the next year.
If one, play the other against NOLA like tomorrow or Tulane.

Was one of them John Olerud?**

Seriously, do you know why they did this?
Had forgotten about him. I looked him up. He was a awesome player in college and pretty good in the pros even after having an brain hemorrhage and a brain aneurysm in college in January of his junior year.

In 1988, Olerud hit .464 with 23 home runs, 81 runs batted in, 108 hits, 204 total bases, and a .876 slugging percentage. As a pitcher, he had an undefeated 15–0 season,[12] with a 2.49 ERA and 113 strikeouts. He was a consensus All-American as both a first baseman and pitcher and was named the Baseball America College Player of the Year.[
