I was trying to recall how many times the MSU Baseball team has achieved a national seeding. I can only recall one time, I am unsure of the year, but we hosted Arizona State and lost to them in our Super Regional. Is this correct? I am sure someone on Sixpackspeak can educate me. Thanks!

Correct. 2016 was our only national seed. But remember that regionals changed formats in 1999/2000 timeframe. Prior to that there were only 8 6-team regionals. So any year we hosted prior to that was in essence a “national seed” equivalent.

Not necessarily. We hosted as a 2 seed multiple times

Not necessarily. Regional sites were based upon bidding as well. We could always make the highest bid.

True. One year we hosted as a very mediocre #3 seed. More accurate to say that any year we were a #1 seed was the equivelent of a current national seed. So 79, 84, 85 and 89 would have been national seed for sure. Which combined with 2016 doesn't give us a good track record as a national seed with only 2 out of 5 of those teams making the CWS. I think we make it 3 out of 6 this year.

That guy looked like one of the all time greats that weekend.

Didn't they travel from ULL straight to Starkville before that regional? And didn't one of their pitchers throw like 150 pitches the prior weekend?

they only had two decent pitchers on that team, it really is amazing how they were able to preform that year. Dalbec was really something else that series too. threw a complete game friday and hit an absolute moonshot saturday.

Yep. They also made a deep run in the CWS only to lose in the finals to College of Charleston, who also caught lightning in a bottle.

We caught Arizona at the wrong time. Even their 150 pound right field was slappin em out.

That would be Coastal Carolina in Conway.
