With schools being shut down along with all sports I am hoping we can discuss some MLB baseball. I know there is a baseball page. But I am hoping we can get more eyeballs on the thread here before it moves to that page.

What does everyone think the Sox' chances of winning 90 games was this year? My personal opinion is, if they could catch the ball and get good pitching they could actually win the division. Of course that is true for a lot of teams. And that is a big if. But I like the lineup. I think they would hit and score runs. I don't care much for Rick Renteria as a manager, but that is a different story.

How about the Cubs? I am not a Cub fan and I don't follow them as closely. Hopefully someone can help me out.

90 was aggressive but they do have a garbage division. I had them at mid-80s but 90 could have been attainable if everything fell right.

I said I think they could win the division. Divisions have been won with the leader winning less than 90 games. On the other hand, Minnesota looks have a solid team this year so it will probably take 90 or more wins. I think 90 wins could happen for the Sox, but it may be unlikely. Still too many mound questions.

Can you offer your thoughts on the Cubs?

I'll take any baseball over nothing, its by far my favorite sport.

A short season could really benefit a young team like the Sox. They get hot and perhaps the flaws of a normal ebb and flow over 162 doesn't surface.
Shortened seasons have actually hurt the Sox in the past. Look it up.

We might not have movie theaters this summer, or restaurants or pubs, but I might get by if I could watch the Sox in the evening .... even if it's some strange set-up. I can't wait to see all that young talent on the field. And no Harrelson!

Their offense is explosive. Their only questions are pitching and catching the baseball.

Twins still the best in their division.

Short season is stupid.Remember 1981? Reds & Cardinals 2 best teams in baseball & neither made the playoffs
I have talked about that many times. It wasn't the shortened season that doomed the Cardinals and Reds. It was the split season. They didn't win their divisions in either half, but they both had the best overall records in their divisions. I thought that was the dumbest thing MLB had ever done. But this, if it does work out that way, will eclipse that. However, at least it won't be a split season.
