Happy early Thanksgiving fellas; while waiting for the Egg Bowl, and between butt clinching Men’s Basketball games, what’s the opinion (Over/Under) the baseball team winning 40 games? Looking at the brutal schedule, I’m going 40-15 before Hoover starts, and that’s if it all comes together.

I’ll take the over. Our nonconference schedule is not the most daunting thing in the world at all so that should allow us to stack wins there. I’m also not just terrified of our SEC schedule. At Arkansas and at Texas will be the toughest series on paper, everything else appears to be a toss up at worst. We may be playing exclusively Top 10-15 teams as part of our home schedule, but you’d rather play them here than on the road.

I’m not particularly scared of road trips to Ole Miss, South Carolina, and A&M, think we could definitely win each of those series.

We’re going to be a preseason Top 5 team and this, on paper, looks like one of our most loaded rosters ever. We have crazy depth at the plate and if we nail down some pitching roles this may be the best team in the country.

40-15, 18-12 is what I’ve got. Must’ve counted wrong since my totals don’t match the above, so add whatever non conference wins I’m missing

Under. But really who knows. I just think with new coach & so many new players it will take time to get everything integrated & all on the same page. But this team could go deep in postseason if it all comes together. Either way the future looks very very good. He will have more resources than he did at Virginia.

39-16 (17-13). It wouldn't surprise me all that much to go undefeated or 1 loss OOC, though. Non-conference schedule is pretty weak.

OOC looks about average to me. Possible tough games......Austin Peay, AZST, UCLA, USM (2), and Tulane. UAB, Samford, and Memphis can sometimes up and surprise you. What gives me hope is that we are so much better than normal whereas the OOC games should not be as big a problem as they have been. I say we lose 2 of them with an outside shot of losing 3, but no more than 3. We'll host a Regional, just not sure yet if we'll be in line to guarantee a home Super.

You never know in baseball; look at Tenn last year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many players drafted in the first 3 rounds from one school, but their on field results were pretty mediocre considering the talent.

It's hard to put a exact number on it for baseball especially in November. I'll go on record that I think this team hosts a home regional and could even be a top 8 seed. I have high expectations for Oak. State made him one of the highest paid college baseball coaches. Is he second now behind Jay Johnson with Vitello leaving UTK? In this day and age with the portal and what he brought in with him, if Oak is who he is supposed to be, State fans should have high expectations for the baseball program under him.

Ok GIF

Who knows what to expect from State athletics anymore?
It appears to have the making of a great team....but I've been a fan long enough to know that these are the times when State rips your heart out, throws it on the ground and then stomps it dry!
Optimistic....yes.....Realist....?

Given this thread title, I guess this means your expectations for Men’s Basketball are now…

6 - 26?
Yeah … not sure where that came from, but try again! Thanks for playing. I said tight butt clinching games, not going 6-26 lol. WTF … Optimism is not in your vocabulary, regardless the situation.

You posting this topic early in a basketball season where State is struggling is a typical Mississippi State “Let’s Junk The Current Sport & Talk About Something We Really Love” move.

I riffed off of your perceived disdain for basketball.

Wow ok … So … if you go back and read my post. Said it’s Egg bowl week, and the MBB team has had some butt clinching games thus far … it was just meant to change every other post on here and get a few opinions. Lol wow … but yeah, you do you!! Let me know how Halloween Havoc 89 turns out. Sorry, forgot you’re entitled since you have 25,909 posts on here.

It’s not your details; it’s the timing of your post.

You gave me the impression you’re giving up on basketball this season… now that’s largely because others have hinted as much in posts about basketball here…

Giving up on the currently active sport and looking at what’s next is something I’ve seen in the past several years from others in this forum on various sports, and as far as I’m concerned it’s gotten to be an old, familiar part of posting here..

Is it final fall or false first winter yet?

Yeah, I’m old…

Has ZERO to do with timing! It was just a question while everything this week …. IN FOOTBALL, MBB, Soccer, Polo, whatever … it was just to get opinions on the upcoming season. Lord! Were there not a dozen posts back in April about Over/Under 4 wins in football? Dude get over yourself! And I wasn’t calling you old .. I watched Halloween Havoc 89 lol on VHS.

We also have the non-conference Ole Miss game. It is average, but average is weak lol. I suspect we lose 2 of these 10 and drop a really dumb "that's baseball" game somewhere else.

Under, we have a tougher league schedule this year. If they go over 40 we'll be ranked in the top 5 due to SOS.

Agree. Yeah, every SEC team will drop some "Stupifying" game(s). That seems to always happen in baseball.
