Since we have a scrimmage today, I hoped we could discuss some baseball stuff ...also to get our mind off Stansbury and recruiting

just from looking around the web, I see
when cohen got oncampus I think he had 1-2 guys that could hit 90, now we have 19 arms that can reach 90+
Bracewell and Stratton likely start today in a 5 inning game.
We return 16 letterman and 14 of the 16 are pitchers
Caleb Reed is a 2nd team All-SEC selection
Brandon Woodruff might be the most talented player on our entire team.
Anybody got anymore stuff to discuss...

"develop" into his tools...as to say, take them from batting practice or behind a radar gun, and be able to fully apply them to actual games.

Granted a scrimmage is a long way from an actual game, but it is the first step in the process....

I know we return more than two lettermen that played in the field. Frazier, Bradford, Stark, Brownlee (sp), Norris, Renfroe, etc. just off the top of my head, and I'm pretty sure all of those guys started at least once at some point last season.

CT, Brownlee, and Frazier are all locks to start. Right now, Frazier is going to play SS, but Cohen didn't rule out playing him at 2B some. Cohen also said the JUCO C (I forget his name) will start over Renfroe. Starks and Renfroe are going to get significant playing time early. Cohen really likes how many different positions Renfroe can play. He said Starks & Renfroe might DH some, too. Kinda interesting that Rea wasn't mentioned and Norris isn't a lock to start. I still say the SEC lineup looks something like this: CT, Brownlee, Starks, Norris, Frazier, Henderson, Rea, Renfroe, Woodruff. Projected SEC rotation: Routt, Evans, Stratton Set-Up: Pollorena Closer(s): Reed/Bracewell

i think cohen is looking for someone to step up and be closer so reed can be used in a variety of ways this year.

We just didn't have anyone else last year. I'm really hoping Bracewell is healthy and can take over the job. I'd love to have a more prototypical closer. I just think given what Cohen has said about Bracewell "not recovering well," that we'll probably use both of them to close in SEC play. Probably Bracewell Friday & Sunday and Reed Saturday. That also gives us flexibility on how we use Reed Friday & Sunday.

As far as the 16 lettermen with 14 being pitchers- maybe they are including dual position guys like CT as pitchers. That's all I can think of.

As far as Ben "not recovering well"- he's talking about pitching him on back to back days which relief pitchers- especially closers have to do sometimes. Just to clarify for people that think he might not be 100%.

Pollorena also gives us a lot of flexibility as well- he is almost as good as Reed is out of the bullpen, and Kendall Graveman is a pretty good pitcher that can give us a lot of innings and I could see any of those I just mentioned used as a closer. And I wouldn't rule out Renfroe as a closer either.

Speaking of Renfroe- the JUCO catcher that Cohen is talking about is Mitch Slauter. As far as him starting- I expect us to use two catchers regularly, so I think it's more like Slauter is 1A and Renfroe is 1B. Also, Renfroe can play a lot of positions like the outfield as well as third and first, so we may end up putting him at a position that we have a weakness at if something isn't working out. I think Nic Amiratti will get some playing time as well at catcher too.
