2026 Baseball Schedule - University of Delaware Athletics
The official 2026 Baseball schedule for the University of Delaware Hens
Same here.I expect this weekend to look more like we thought last weekend would.
Two easy wins with one that looks dicey till late, when we pull away.
Rematch of the 2001 Regional semifinal at Ohio State.
We had a come from behind win over the 4 seed Kent State, who had the saves leader in the country. We belted him and Enrico Jones hit a double to either tie or give us the win in the bottom of the 9th/10th.
Delaware upset Ohio State in the other game. Ohio State had saved their ace for us and it bit them. Kent State actually eliminated them in the 0-1 game We had a hard fought victory against Delaware to get to the final and ended up smoking Kent State in the final.
Outside the final, which was 14-4, every game played in that regional was a one run game. It was a great regional. Imagine driving back from Ohio trying to figure out who won the Fullerton regional. We knew that Texas Tech had for MACced a second game but did not know the result until stopping at an internet cafe in Nashville. 2001, man.

I had forgotten about this part - their first baseman was the nation's leader in home runs and he was the pitcher that had a ton of saves.I remember that Kent State team. They had put up some big offensive numbers in the MAC as I recall.

College baseball got near zero coverage until the CWS in those days.I have a similar experience with that Regional. My family left for a trip to Disney World during either the Saturday or Sunday game. I remember listening to it until we lost radio signal about halfway through, and thinking well I hope we won, guess I’ll find out in a few days. There was not even much TV coverage at all of the Regionals back then, not even on like the Sportscenter ticker. I remember finding out that we advanced from the USA Today on about Tuesday or Wednesday afterward when they had a blurb on the Super Regional matchups, and I saw that we were playing Fullerton so I was like “ok I guess we won”.

We got outside Nashville and stopped for gas. There was a little Cyber Cafe there and I paid like $10 for a drink and the ability to dial up and find out Fullerton won.
