Aug. 17th is the deadline to sign with a MLB team for players that were drafted in the ameatur draft. If a team doesn't sign you by midnight of the 17th, they lose your rights. Conner could then return to school or sign with an Independent team the equivalent of the old Jackson Senators.
In all likelihood, he will return to school if he comes back.
Expect the Dodgers to make a big push this weekend and Mon. to try to sign him.
