Sunday's Texas-Minnesota game ended on a coach interference call. Is that just a major league rule or is it also applicable to colleges? To make it MSU related, the LSU baserunner who ran into then-LSU assistant Smoke Laval a little over 20 years ago was not called out immediately but was tagged out.

i remember that being called in a little league game: coach pushed the runner back onto 3rd after he overran the bag. haven't seen the MLB play, but pretty sure the coach can't physically influence the play (by contact with a player or the ball), at any level of play, or else the runner is out. maybe that only applies if the coach is outside the coach's box.</p>

but players not "active" in a play and coaches are not allowed to touch other active players (the batter or baserunners).

It happened about 2 weeks ago ina Cardinals game to Nyjer Morgan. Nyjer lunged at our catcher (after he stepped out of his way togive himplenty of room to step on home)and missed home plate... he then ran to the dugout and the on-deck batter grabbed and told him to go back and touch home. He was then called out by the home plate umpire because the on-deck batter touched him.

Having played ball both college level and semi pro and also being an ump for many years I can tell you that they blew that call.....The rule is meant to keep coaches from assisting/impeding players from returning to or leaving the bag....If you look at it, their fingertips barely even touched, complete BS....I'm not even a fan of either team, but I saw it and was shocked that it was even called, I think that is where the human element comes in and the whole "interpretation of the rule" comes into play...Hate to see it too, def. changed the outcome.
