"After a throw down to first base – it would've been the game's final out – the umps ruled it had hit in the batter's box and was thus foul."

I thought the only way a ball would be foul in that situation was if it hit the BATTER in the batter's box, not just that the ball initially hit in the batter's box. Even if a ball does initially bounce down and hit in the batter's box but does not hit the batter and then goes fair, by rule I thought that was a fair ball. Isn't that correct?

in the batters box or in foul territory for it to be foul. I wish I could've seen the play happen so I could know how bad we got screwed in that one.

Still gotta get those outs from Routt though. Baffling that he can't pitch anymore.

the line and hadn't thrown an incredible amount of pitches.

And he lost his starting job this year. Something ain't right with him.

Apparently him throwing the change up is what hurt his arm in the first place, or so it is said.......Now that he essentially doesn't have that pitch, he's getting hammered..........</p>

I hardly call 4 singles(which 2 never made it off the infield grass)in 4.2 innings getting hammered. If you watched the post game interview Routt said he was throwing fastball & change up.Yesterday's stats confirm that as well 10 ground outs 2 fly outs and 2 k's out of 18 batters. He's actually thrown very well his last 3 outings. 3 scoreless with only 1 hit & 0 runsagainst So. Miss and against TSUN 1.2 inn. 2 unearned runs-defense didn't back him up - multiple errors at 3rd base by both Norris and Frost. All Frost had to do was tag 3rd base in that game and the inning was over. He really started throwinga goodchange up again when he pitched against Arkansas - 8 ks in 4.2 inn and only 2 runs. Problem withthat game was Stanek shut us out. Also he's hasn'tgiven up anextra base hits in last 3 outings.

of late........I really questioned bringing in Girodo when they did........If you were going to bring in Routt anyway, that would've been the time to do it IMO......In any event, Routt has pitched better but he also pitched bad enough in the early and middle part of the year to lose hisjob asa weekend starter........We're gonna need him down the stretch.......He has the experience and if I remember correctly, he pitched very well in the post season last year.........We'll need that again........

His freshman year he made seasoned SEC hitters (with extremely hot composite BESR bats, not BBCOR) look like fools with that pitch. His fastball only sat around 88 for much of that year yet he threw that 80ish circle change that buckled hitters. He wasn't a power pitcher at all yet still led the team in K's by almost double. Yes, we weren't very good on the mound that year, but still, as a non-power pitcher having that many Ks vouches for the effectiveness of that changeup.

I hope Nick can regain his ability to throw that pitch. It truly is the difference in him being a semi-effective middle reliever and a dominant weekend starter. He still has a year of eligibility remaining, so there is time, yet, for him to recover.

when I reviewed they play by play I was a bit surprised routt was pull for the last batter. But I don't have the scouting report so maybe that guy has hammered routt in the past or something. Either way we had some back luck with the foul ball call, but at least we won the series
