There was no game thread yesterday and from what I can see no discussion of the Arizona game. There has been no mention of our game currently being played against Oklahoma State.

I believe baseball apathy is at an all time high.

We lost last night's game on a base running blunder. This has been a consistent theme under Lemonis, along with extremely ordinary recruiting and wild personnel decisions.

We look look like a bad baseball team when we play anyone with a pulse. I'm starting to seriously wonder if Lemonis makes it through this season.

It’s titled “Hunter Hines returns game thread”. And there was one yesterday

Are we ready to tinker with weekend rotation yet? Pruitt, McPherson, Foster, Davis and Burns I believe would all be better than Ligon and Simmons and we wouldn’t start off in a 4-5 run hole after two innings

Broken record here. Lemonis is not the guy. He has to go. But Selmon cannot be allowed to be anywhere near the search for the replacement. It’s a terrible position to be in.

It's inevitable.

School wins first National Championship. School's rival does the same the very next year. School has to fire coach that won first National Championship not to long after that. This story was written before it began, and could only happen at one place....

Can we still build a statue if we fire him?

This team is going to have to battle just to make a regional this year which is just laughable for this program.

We have been putting zero money or effort into baseball ever since Selmon arrived, and I’ll go ahead and spoil it for everyone… we’re not paying Lemonis’s buyout this offseason either.

"I can't be bothered to actually notice that there are long threads about both of the games I said there was no discussion of, but by all means, you should listen to my opinion of State baseball because I'm really knowledgeable and on top of things."

I've been wondering if Lemonis makes it through the season for the last 3 seasons. So far, this seems to be a very average baseball team. With our history, that's a below average State baseball team. I don't particularly like ANY part of our team this year so far. I was sitting behind the dugout for the Southern Miss game, you should have seen the lack of enthusiasm in our dugout, along with the lack of Maroon in the stadium and the apathy of the fans who actually showed up and had to sit through that debacle.

We usually take more fans to USM, but this year it seemed like we made up 10% of the crowd. Southern Miss is very good this year, but losing another one at home on Tuesday against them will tell us a lot about our team. We better turn this **** around.

We can’t afford his buyout bc we have to build a multi million dollar IPF that doesn’t do anything for us.

Ticket sales appear to be down for the Biloxi series. Usually that stadium has been packed for every other time we played there. Sad.

I've still yet to watch one inning, much less a series, and you'll have to tell me what happened.
Bottom 9, down 6-5, O'Brien on 3rd, Highfill on 2nd, one out, Frei at the plate

Frei hits a bouncer to the pitcher but we send the runners on contact

O'Brien gets caught in a rundown and tagged out 1 - 2 - 5. Highfill had advanced to third, but when O'Brien retreated, he turned and went back to second. Frei was already at second so he had to run back to first where thankfully no one was covering. Had Highfill stayed on third and both he and O'Brien had been tagged while standing on the base, it still would have been second and third with two outs. As it was we took our last at bat with men on first and second. Chance flied out to end the game.

That single play can be debated all you want. Should the runners have been moving on contact? Should Highfilll have stayed at third? Arguments can be made both ways. But that one play is not what put us in a 5-1 deficit. We gave Ligon too much rope and dug ourselves a hole. We stranded runners at second in the 5th, 6th, and 7th. What we did for the 8 innings prior is what put us in position to make our decisions in the bottom of the 9th so notable.

Polk's teachings was you only gave him the return base if there are 2 outs. If you are going down angle/contact the decision has been made and the ball back to the pitcher is just unfortunate. Better 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs.

When that ball went off Chase's bat I really thought is was going to be off the wall.

Base running has been atrocious over these past few years.

Totally agree. When the contact play is on, the ball going to the pitcher is bad luck. I don't know if Highfill going back to second was his own instinct or Cheese telling him to go back. Obviously second and third is preferable in that situation to keep open the WP or PB option. Who knows what the pitch selection would have been to Chance if it was second and third and not first and second. But I still don't agree with the OP's initial statement that we lost the game on a baserunning blunder.

Baserunners looking to coaches when they shouldn't has been my biggest peeve over these past few years. I have watched runners look to third base on a ball hit to left field or center field rounding second way too many times. It's right in front of them and they are looking at a coach. If cheese told him to go back then he made a mistake also.
