First of all, some of this is German worthy. (Or actually all of it), but screw it beause it doesn't involve Scott Lindsey.

A couple of years ago, people were asking about Patrick Palmeiro, who was listed as a secret commitment/soft verbal whatever term you prefer to use by Perfect Game a couple of years ago. Well, Rafael was not real happy with how the whole coaching switch thing happened, and his son ended up at a Colleyville CC in Texas after being drafted by the Pirates. He then transferred to Howard CC- same school as former MSU commit Runey Davis from a couple of years ago. Well, now he has ended up at UAB with Polk and former MSU/Polk refugees Micheal Busby and David Hayes. I wish all of them good luck!

Paxton Pace isn't on the team any longer, and I hate that because he has battled injuries throughout his entire career, and I know that he had to play with a lot of pain at times. When he actually did play, he did pretty well the times that I saw him, so I hate that for him because his issues were something out of his control. I wish him well in the future as well.

Pace leaving also means that we are down to two players that played under the old regime- Ryan Collins and Cody Freeman. The only players left that were recruited by the previous staff are Brent Brownlee, Nick Routt, Caleb Reed, and Devin Jones.

The good news on the injury front is that ALL of our players at this time- knock on wood- are able to play and virtually the entire team is 100% at this time. The only players that aren't 100%, are at least cleared to throw and could contribute in limited action- and there are three guys that fall in this category. Tim Statz, Micheal Dixon, and Ben Bracewell. The best news on the injury front is that Ben Bracewell has recovered very well from his surgery in the summer, and it's looking more and more like he is going to be able to pitch next year, which is a change because he was expected to sit out the year. Only thing is, that moves the roster back to 36, which means that one of those three again are likely to be the victim of a roster cut. My educated guess is that Dixon will be the one that gets cut because Statz and Bracewell seem to be further along. The other option would be a freshman, and I just don't think that will happen, but is not out of the question either.

The other good news for me is that we have some prospects from the Gulf Coast that I would like to see, which gives me an excuse to go to Mary Mahoney's this spring.

On my baseball watch wish list this spring are- Brandon Woodruff, Will Cox, Jacob Lindgren, Myles Gentry, Jonathan Holder, Curt Chism and Jacob Schempert. I would put Anthony Alford on there, but I'm not sure how much he will play next year because of his recent knee injury, plus I've seen him play several times before.

You obviously know your ****, so I was curious to see your thoughts on the SEC this year? How do you think it shakes out?

RebelShark- I follow mainly MLB and MSU/SEC. My weakness is predicting things, and I have a really crappy crystal ball. But, I will say that I really like Florida to win the SEC because they had a lot of good young talent last year. The SEC will be the best in the country in baseball next year, and I really don't see any "bad" teams- or what I would call bad, which would be a team that has a losing record, although one certainly could emerge. I do think that MSU will be one of the worst teams, and I still stand by my 30-26 prediction. Just too many freshmen and JUCO guys for my liking, but I think (hope) MSU will see signs of progress. This will be Earth shattering, but Ole Miss will REALLY miss Drew Pomeranz, but I think they will be OK. Bianco is really good about finding/developing someone that seems to step up and stabilize the pitching staff. I think the pitcher from Virginia whose name escapes me right now should be pretty good. I also think Preston Overbey will be a very good player for Ole Miss as well. I won't predict a record because I haven't looked at Ole Miss's schedule, but I feel pretty confident in saying that I expect them to make a regional.

For those asking about the freshmen- I expect CT Bradford and Daryl Norris to start a lot of games- CT will have to contend with Jaron, Ryan Collins, and Brent Brownlee, and Norris will compete with Jarrod Parks and Nick Vickerson for playing time at the corner infield positions.

Who else will play as far as freshmen? I think Evan Mitchell is going to play a role for us out of the bullpen, and maybe as a midweek starter, Norris will also pitch for us- I think out of the bullpen, Hunter Renfroe will play and I wouldn't be all that shocked if he is the starting catcher at the end of the year- he was our highest drafted freshmen. Demarcus Henderson may overtake Sam Frost at second base or platoon and Adam Frazier is going to be in the mix at second base, although I like Henderson a little bit more than the other two. CT Bradford will also pitch for us out of the bullpen as well. I think Wes Rea will probably be a pinch hitter/DH type guy as a freshman because he is recovering from an arm injury suffered in high school, and they want to limit his throwing. Taylor Stark can play almost anywhere except catcher, and he will factor in some in a reserve role.

Ben Bracewell- Yes, they are planning on pitching him this spring.

Fan just, in general, have sore vaginas because we've been losing. But Frost himself put up similar numbers to Thomas Berkery and Brad Freeman when they were freshmen.

I think a lot of it has to also to do with the fact that he was hitting below the Mendoza line for a good bit of the year, and then he improved over the course of the year and was able to savage his average to very respectable .248 clip. But, a lot of times, people remember first impressions.

In fact, at one point last year, I pointed out that Frost had nearly identical numbers to Frank Rawdow, who most people seemed to really like.

I will say that in this instance, my opinion was based more on me liking Demarcus Henderson rather than disliking Sam Frost. And as of now, if the rumors are correct, Frost is slated to start at second, but I do think it will be more of a platoon with both Demarcus and Frost because Henderson is a right handed hitter and Frost is left handed.

I also should point out on Sam Frost's behalf that there is at least as good, if not better chance of Jonathan Ogden not hitting his weight and Cohen using Henderson or Frazier at SS.

I didn't really expect much from him since he was a walk on, but he didn't field very well for someone that was supposed to be a defensive specialist.

Frost's and Ogden's batting average in conference play. Henderson doesn't have a real high bar to exceed to prove he's deserving of a middle infield spot.

That being said, I really hope the defensive errors up the middle drastically drop. These 2 were responsible for a third of the league play errors ( I know playing SS and 2B they have a higher propensity for the E, but still). And maybe it's just me, but it seemed like the errors occurred at the most inopportune time.

frost is good at hustling, but to say hes as good as thomas berkery at this point, who won the SEC batting title his senior year and batted over .400, is a false statement. he has 6 bombs his freshman year comapred to frost hitting just 6 out of the infield

and his defense because I remember during the Governor's Cup, he made a very critical error that really hurt us.

You have a great point about the middle infield defense being more likely to commit errors than some of the other positions. What you could do is compare their fielding percentage vs the other team's in the SEC and see how they stack up, which it looks like you may have already done, and as I'm sure you found, they don't stack up very well.

I do think that Ogden is a good defensive player, but he had a nightmarish weekend against Ole Miss where he committed a LOT of errors if I recall. It is my hope that Frost improves since he was a freshman, but if he doesn't, we have some people that will get a shot.

But, regarding Frost, I think we were thinking along the same lines in that you are right, the bar isn't set real high. But I also think that Frost isn't as bad as he is made out to be. The truth is in the middle- right now he is a below average player, but with some room to grow, which may or may not happen.

I also have to agree about errors coming at the absolute worst time. They never happen with two outs and the 9th place hitter on deck and the bases empty.

And regarding the defense, I hope and expect it to improve not just in the middle infield, but all over the diamond as well.

was also a redshirt freshman as opposed to a true freshman. To me, that makes a little bit of a difference. Enough to make it apples and oranges.

Bianco = "Rick Stansbury" of SEC baseball.

He ranks a lot higher than Stans would be when compared to other college basketball coaches.
