Looks as though it'll be completed in the next couple of weeks. There's a picture on Gene-o's site

i agree it is pretty awful, i mean just paint the side of the dame building green or something...but wait, consider the name of the building, it is the final middle finger of the old era...

you're right... it looks pretty bad. It wouldn't look all that bad if they just extended the wall an extra few hundred feet/yards. that way it wouldn't look like it's just stuck right in the middle of nowhere for no reason. sure, we all know what its for, but to an outsider looking in, it probably looks ridiculous

..and they cut it off with a sawsall. The edges are rough and jagged. It's obvious they don't plan on it going back up. Now... maybe some new fake brick will go up. But the stuff that came down ain't going back.

But somebody needs to be in Byrne's ear about the pile of **** he just erected behind the lounge. WTF, man?

...Imagine one about 30 feet tall, 30 feet wide, installed vertically and set about 20 feet behind the outfield fence on the right side of the existing hitter's backdrop.

I'll take some pics tomorrow of it and its foundations to let you see how permanent it is. But I have a sneaking suspicion I already know....

is plant some trees in front of it so that it would look aesthetically pleasing. Or we could cover it with some ivy like the Cubs. I think that would look pretty good. We could probably find out what kind of ivy they have up in Chicago and we have some students that could probably grow it fairly easily in the horticulture dept.

Or, we could be original and go with kudzu, which certainly fits with Mississippi, of course the entire LFL would be taken over by kudzu by the time SEC play starts, which would be a negative.

.....make sure to only approve architectural designs from architects smart enough to know that when they're designing a building to the northeast of the baseball stadium, that they need to not make the visible side of it an eyesore for the batter.

1st of all, if a batter is looking that far right of the pitcher, he isn't seeing the pitch or is looking at a pitch that is going to sail waaaaayy outside the strike zone.
In my opinion, the extra wall is totally un-necessary and the LT center isnt in the batter's field of vision. The center field wall is plenty big enough to provide a background for the space in which a pitch will travel. The only instance in which I could imagine that the building would be in someone's field of vision would be on a relay from RC.

If someone is really, that concerned, they should build the extra-wall all the way around. Because looking out into left-center you got a light blue sky that can be difficult to pick the ball up in. Same for left, right, and etc.

and he said yes, it was. I just can't believe we'd half *** something like this, but it looks like we have.

....and they plan to remove what's left of the bare-metal frame from the old one, and use the larger board itself for the advertising?

Some notes: the new board will be 36 x 19 compared to the old 20 x 15,
the baseball clock on top will not be re-used, the board will FINALLY have a back but its not known what as of yet.
Video board will be HD, but no hd cameras are available for baseball use as of yet...
Ad banners on sides of board will be larger...We will still be the Henry Mize University
and in the future another ribbon board style display will be added across the bottom much like the new Dawgzillatron.

Ivy grows on brick walls because the brick will soak up moisture and the ivy can suck it out. It's not going to grow on a metal wall, plus it's way too smooth for the Ivy to grab hold so it can't grow up. I suppose we could put big planters at the top and allow the Ivy to grow down the wall. That's about the only thing that could make it more ridiculous than it already is.

I have to believe they are doing that temporarily until they can get some plants to grow or something. Even if the foundation is concrete they have to make sure it doesn't fall down in the middle of a game, or a storm, but you can still yank that ***** out once some trees have grown. That is just way too ugly for me to believe someone thought it was a good permanent solution.

what do they do with the HD cameras for football during the offseason? store them with the fartcups?

i have to think that the smart move would be to move the cameras from the football field to the baseball field for the season. the only problem you'd run into is saturday of super bulldog weekend (with the spring football game).
