Meridith "Mo" Sanford who played for Starkville High, but actually went to school and pitched for Bama. He was later drafted and I think had a cup of coffee with the Reds.</p>
Steve King was the 3rd pitcher that year. That was the year Skip Bertman said when you play MSU you just hope you can salvage the 3rd game on Sunday. I think Myles was on the 81 CWS team. I know he pitched in 82. Think that was his last year, but I know he was gone by 84.
Actually, he's one of the fewAfrican Americans to play baseball at MSU, period. The others I remember are Glen Young (basically a pinch runner), Michael Brown (2B), and Rico Jones (OF).......
For most of the 80s we played 3 games a year in Jackson. UM, USM, and either LSU or Alabama. So we played 1/2 of our SEC games in Jackson and 1/2 in Starkville, but Jackson got the big ones and Starkville got the Florida's (back before Florida was what they are now) and Kentucky's.
