Let's just hope our current AD will be able to address this when the time comes, with a much better hire.

Yeah. I’ve never faulted him for the Holbrook hire as nobody hated it at the time and he was expected to be a good coach, even turning down opportunities (Tennessee) to stay at SC as an assistant. And we actually had better talent during his tenure as evidenced by the players sent to MLB. But that was his downfall…he just focused on Talent. Meanwhile Coastal wins a CWS with the type of gritty players we had a few years previous. Need a mixture of guys like Walker, JBJ (MLBers) and gritty guys like Wingo and Morales. The sure-fire prospect failed…fine but we needed to correct it right then.

The big head scratcher was Kingston. Deep down we were just hopeful but that hire was questionable and concerning from the start. He really never accomplished anything as a HC. If anything, we got exactly what we should’ve expected from his teams. The same as he always was. It blew my mind that this was the best we could get.

Maineri just felt like a lazy hire. Made a splash with a former CWS Champion I guess, but certainly not the kind everyone was impressed with. The game has changed so much. Coaches are retiring due to the NIL and we’re hiring a short-term guy with no NIL experience? Crazy. The reality is, Tanner probably just wanted to hire Monte Lee, which is even more unforgivable. Maineri was just the bridge to that. It’s mind-blowing to be honest. It’s so sad to see his legacy tarnished but what he did as AD, or rather what he was unable to accomplish just can’t be ignored.
This is probably the most well-thought-out post on our baseball coaches since Tanner left the dugout that I have read.

Yeah, the Holbrook hire seemed very natural at the time. He just couldn't quite figure it out at SC as the HC. He's done well at College of Charleston. Pretty much got to win that conference tournament to make the NCAA in their conference and he hasn't done that yet but he hasn't really had bad seasons there.

Kingston...what I recall from that hire was a feeling of "I hope it works", but feeling skeptical. Not hating it, not loving it. But didn't know enough about him nor the search process. It was really more so the emptiness of information in the search process that lead to the skepticism. There was no real information and then suddenly this dude Kingston is the coach. After the coaching search that landed Muschamp my impression with the Kingston hire was this was what they had to take. More puzzling is that he was not let go after 2022.

With Mainieri I had the same fears as others. He can coach the game of baseball very well. But with the rapid changes in college sports was he ready to return and deal with all that.

Mainieri fits the SC retread coach hiring model perfectly. He won at Notre Dame and LSU and then retired. SC drug him out of retirement to coach. Anyone who is surprised this hasn't worked out hasn't been paying attention. Mainieri is 68 years old and has three more years on his contract.

Not taking BP before a game is criminal. If that is actually true. Imagine not taking practice swings before you play golf. No practice shots before a basketball game. Not throwing a football until you enter the game. Not drinking coffee before going to work. Not taking your pants off to take a shucks. Its all relative..

I think the Kingston hire was Tanner scrambling to hire somebody after Kevin O'Sullivan played him to get a raise and facilities improvements at Florida.

The Ray Tanner tenure at AD may actually be the most destructive time in USC sports history. For the men’s sports that pay the bills it absolutely is just that. The board of trustees oversaw the whole dumpster fire and rubber stamped it all.
Worst than King Dixson? That's bad.

If that is indeed what happened then Kingston was never going to work. That was similar the in the Muschamp hiring too. About had Kirby then UGA jumped. And that one I can understand, pursued the right dude but then his alma mater made an offer. SC wasn’t going to win that. But Rich Rodriguez was also interviewed. So on the other hand…

Rodriguez was offered and turned it down.

Assuming, of course, that Landon wants a shot.
From what I read here, any coach South Carolina wants, South Carolina can have. All coaches in all sports nationwide are sitting by their phones waiting on the call from Donati. In fact, most keep a bag packed and a real estate agent on standby in case they get the call and need to move to Columbia.

They also must know after 3 years it will become "need to fire". Next man up.....

In concert with the fact that Donati keeps that carefully researched short list of can’t miss gems in his desk drawer ( as we’re told by those with apparent AD experience that any AD worth his salt has at the ready), this thing should be done by the close of business on the day of our choosing.

To be totally honest, I would love to be hired as a coach at the University of South Carolina. I don't have to be the best or brightest, have no consequences for my decision making, but ultimately still get paid life changing levels of money to not work ever again after a couple of years.

I know he got like 22 new players but didn't find a way to upgrade the pitching. It's mind boggling. Long, long season, but dang.

Thank goodness we had a late inning comeback against NKU or we’d have a losing record. I remember the days we used to talk about our “actual record” as these early season cupcakes didn’t even count.

Our Athletic Depart along with NIL has me about ready to just watch pro sports. It’s really sad it has come to this. It feels like we’re a long way from digging ourselves out of it too. There is no hope for baseball and basketball right now. Only a glimmer for football.

The time is here!! Unlike Basketball, this program was on the verge of being a dynasty. Now worst in the state!!

It was around 2015-2016 after the baseball team lost to Clemson just after the other men's teams had lost to them. I wrote a scathing email to him and said something just like that. I didn't get a response and didn't expect one, but what I said was right.
