<p class="your-receiver">Your receiver will treat the off-air local channels exactly as it treats channels you get through the DIRECTV satellite. This means your local channels will be integrated into your program guide and you'll be able to search for your favorite shows, view program descriptions, set parental controls and record shows to your DVR (if the receiver has a Digital Video Recorder). </p>
Or you could spend a few bucks on a new remote. Just sayin.Optimus Prime 4 said:so I'd actually have to get up and walk up to the tv. Too much effort. Though it would be a good excuse to get a new tv.
weblow said:I had Dish Network for about 3 months until Time Warner was available in my area. Out of the 3 months, I had 4 days that I did not have to reset receivers or contact customer service. They sent 4 installers and then the regional trouble shooter to my house trying to get it to work. Went through 6 different boxes and the damn things just didn't work. No trees in the way, no bad weather, it was just a crappy product.
I finally had had it with them and told them to come pickup their ****. They left holes in my walls and exterior of my house and then left me a bill for $500. After numerous calls to their customer service department and finally a letter form an attorney they were willing to drop the $500 they said I owed them. We just watched tv from rabbit ears until Time Warner, now Comcast, got service in my area.
I will go to watching TV on my computer before I give a dime to Dish Network. I am not saying that Comcast is fantastic, but when I turn on the TV it works. Did I have trouble with my HD being laggy at first, yes, but they came out, installed an amp, and it has been flawless since. Now the "upgrade" that left me with the cool Windows 95 DVR and Guide is a different story but it is still light years ahead of Dish Network.

Jackson, MS is #90 with 334,650 TV households. We have to be on the list somewhere soon if all these much smaller markets are slated to get their local channels in HD. We need a good reason here in Jackson and I appreciate the upcoming reply. <div> Thanks

</div> <div> ------------------------------------------------------ </div> <div> <div> <div> 4) Reply from DirecTV Customer Service <div><font face="Tahoma" size="2">OK Tatum, the response looks like some canned answer to make me upgrade. I take it the answer to the question is no, you can't give me a reason. How hard is it? Does every resident in Butte Montana subscribe to DirecTV with HD locals & our market in Jackson, MS, only has a thousand or so customers who wish for HD locals? There has to be some logic somewhere to explain this to the customer. Can't someone be a little more specific? The very 1st DirecTV system was sold in Jackson, MS, 15 years ago. That should help us get the service, right? If Jackson doesn't fit the formula to get on the list, just tell me. If it does, there has to be a schedule with Jackson listed somewhere or a formula to calculate who/when goes on the list. What's the procedure used to give you the last group including the markets of Dothan & Odessa. Do the right thing & explain this. If you can't, tell your boss you need the info. Thanks for the time Tatum.</font>

At least there seems to be some legit technical reason that has something to do with it. </div> </div> </div> </div><div> <font face="Tahoma" size="2">From: DIRECTV Customer Service

Dear --------------,</font> </div> <div> <font face="Tahoma" size="2"> </font> </div> <div> <font face="Tahoma" size="2">Thank you for taking the time to write. I understand your concern in regards to receiving local channels in HD in the Jackson market. All of the markets you listed that will be receiving HD local channels are markets that we have recently began to carry the standard definition feed for and this feed is being broadcast as an MPEG-4 feed, which is the same way we deliver HD programming. Your standard definition local channels in Jackson are currently being broadcast as an MPEG-2 feed. This is not the deciding factor as to why these markets are scheduled to receive HD local programming as we can not provide any information as to how or why we provide different markets with HD locals before another. Unfortunately, we can not provide you any listing or schedule available that would provide a date as to when the Jackson market will have HD local programming.
Thanks again for writing and I thank you very much for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Joshua D. Y4368
