you tell him that the way the program has been heading in the last few years is unacceptable and that it has to change or we'll have to make a change. Supposedly, Stricklin had that discussion with him after last season. But you have to give him the freedom to make the changes he thinks are needed and then hold him accountable for the results. If you start telling him he has to fire this coach or hire this one, you're handcuffing him and not letting him do his job. </p>

make another post about basketball. If my school doesnt care about basketball- I wont either.

That goes against what I've been hearing- we shall see I guess
You know, I was for a change if we miss the tourney, but this is a game changer.

He has made us relevant and he has our program respectable on the national stage.

We can get everything we want out of our coaching staff if we bring in some high energy, basketball savvy asst. coaches...(Shane Power for one).
We are not relevant. We are not respected. Shane Power played his entire career for Rick. How is bringing him in helping? No No No. The OP has discredited this entire thread.

ETA: I am sorry. That was harsh. I would be all for bringing in some good assistants, FROM OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM,but there is no way to make Rick listen to them. The man is totally clueless in some areas but he will never listen to anyone else. He brings in yes men and that's the only way he will operate. He could make that work but there's no way it will ever happen.

You might as well save your energy but it isn't going to happen this year. We will win over 20 again and probably will still go dancing. Bash me all you want to, I am used to it but he will be the head coach at MSU next season.

I'm hearingmaking things up alot different
Fixed that for you.

Is he doing a good job with the talent this year? No. Has he done a good job with the talent in recent years, not so much. However, is bringing in more talent than most of the SEC and we are winning more games than most of the SEC. I agree that his coaching needs alot of improvement, bu that the first step would be to clean out the assistants. If his strength is truly recruiting, then hire a true X's and O's guy to coordinate the offense and defense. Hire a second assistant that is a young guy but tough minded. Someone who can relate to the players but is not afraid to push them as far as discipline. Build a coaching staff that complements each others skill sets. I don't know the current staff, but I don't seea great strategy guy or a young disciplinarian. I'd try to take advantages of Stans strengths and shore up his weaknesses through new assistants before gambling on a new head coach. It hasn't panned out too well for many of the other SEC teams with more money etc. If that doesn't work, then it's time for a change.

But I still don't think the jury should be out on Stans. Lords knows something needs to happen but I don't think the right move is to fire Stans. In my opinion we have a better chance of tanking as a program than taking the next step of being a tournament team year in and year out with a few sweet sixteen appearances if we get rid of him. He has made us relevant and he has our program respectable on the national stage. Our changes should be made beneath Stans. We can get everything we want out of our coaching staff if we bring in some high energy, basketball savvy asst. coaches...(Shane Power for one). There are plenty of options out there. It's too big of a risk to fire Stans.
Seriously? The jury is still out? After 14 years?<div>
</div><div>Look we aren't talking about a young struggling coach who took over a bad program and has had some good years and some bad years. We are talking about someone whose best run as a coach ended in the 2005 season. Since then we've scheduled a horrible OOC, managed ~9-7 conference record. Consider during that timeframe a traditional basketball power in the SEC West, Arkansas, has been making dumb coaching hires. The two schools coming in to the SEC next year are better in basketball than any teams we normally face in the SEC. So Arkansas can no longer be counted on as a win, and neither will Missouri or</div><div>
