Basketball 'crootin' question: I've heard all about the MS Fab 5 or whatever.....

but on Scout, Deville Smith and Rodney Hood seem to be nothing more than another Dee Bost and Romero Osby. While they are good players, they aren't NBA guys. So why the big hoopla on getting their commitments? Seems like we beat out the country for Osby too, so why is Hood special? Smith seemed to have an offer list like Bosts....a few good teams, but nothing special.

I assume Tyler Adams, Letwan Luckett and Johnny OBryant are the other 3, correct? Are these guys Monta Ellis type phenoms or something? Because there was no question about him, everyone KNEW he was NBA material a la Beasley/Rose/Wall. Mr. 5 star all everything.

Not hating on these guys, I really don't know. And I guess the whole "Hopson is the one and done savior" who is now playing his third year at UT and no better than Bost.....kinda changed my outlook.

Ohio State bound....for now.

Basketball recruiting is as big a crap shoot as football. The AAU and recruiting services pump these guys up to the point that it's hard to know who is a good player and who has just got athleticism. I'm a Duke homer, but look at Duke's recruiting classes in the past 6-8 years. A bunch of five star guys, many of whom couldn't play a lick. Many of them transferred out. Lucky for me the ones who did pan out put together a nice run in March.

Deville is the best true point I have seen in High School in MS. Hood can actually handle the ball, unlike Osby, he is the best player Stans gotten out of High School besides RSS.

The more of these kind of players you get the better your chances of having a good team. Nothing more. Nothing less. Some will pan out and some won't but if you don't get these type of players then you don't stand a chance of ever being a consistent NCAA team. You need a collection of talent to win moreso than just one All World type player. It is crazy to pin all of your hopes on one guy.....even Sidney. Downey was great for SC andMitchell was great for LSU but neither had a team worth a crap.

Hood will probably be a solid player for State but if he is not a superstar that does not make him a disappointment to me as long as we are winning. I am done withsaying "fill in the blank" will be the greatest player ever at MSU.

I see all these 4 star good to great guys we get, and they all think they are awesome, and Stans usually can't get them under control in Starkville....someone's always disgruntled, etc. It's almost as if I want a team full of role players and then a few studs. Who knows, I'm pretty ignorant about basketball, I just like to watch us win.

Just to add, in my experience, Scout's following of basketball and it's players is abysmal. Use Rivals or ESPN for player news and evaluations.
