If we end up going the assistant basketball coach route, then this job isn't the job that others on here thought it should be. I have watched as posters proclaimed the MSU job to be an upper SEC job, and way above a school like South Carolina. Well, South Carolina got a home run hire in Frank Martin. Frank Martin has taken a terrible program in a state with one of the best college basketball programs and won big. If we are going to go the assistant coach route, we may as well give Robert Kirby a shot. He can keep the recruiting at a high level, has a great reputation with big men and has been learning the ins and outs of the Princeton offense under John Thompson, III. Calipari's offense is predicated on having NBA caliber talent.<div>
</div><div>Kenny Payne is a real stretch for an SEC program. Hiring assistant coaches with no head coaching experience hardly ever happens in major conferences in basketball. </div><div>
</div><div>If it is Kenny Payne, I will back the new coach 100%, because there is always the chance that he ends up being a great coach (there is always a chance). But as far as the hire, it would be an epic fail considering we should be able to pull a head coach of at least a mid major.</div><div>
