Lets say the new guys are everything everyone hopes they are (a long shot for sure). What is the lineup? Who loses the most time.

You've got Smith, Watson, Webster, Pettaway, White, Shields, Morrow, Pitchford, Hammond, Fuller. Predict your starting 5.

That line up scares me because of a lack of rebounding. We really need a big and I don't think Pitch is the answer. Unfortunately, it appears based on playing time that Hammond isn't the answer either. Can they get Pitch to play more like a big man?

Whoa!! What makes you say that? I have been wondering what his deal is this year but do you think Miles would cut him?

Miles needs to find a player or two that can score with his back toward the basket. We need this in the worse way.

That means 2 big men. Hammond need to get in the weight room this summer and get stronger.

Miles would have to some disciplinary reason to let Pitchford go of his scholarship.

Morrow will be a legit back to the basket scorer from day 1, but at 6'7 he is more of a 4 that needs to play with another big man. IMO

WAAAAAAAY too early to discount Hammond. He has potential. What's more important than the starting 5 is the 8 (or so) man rotation. We may end up with a 10 man rotation while playing lots of newcomers next year. Rivers gave us all he had but IMO we will replace him with a freshman that is better than him from day one. Pitch might not play much next year if Morrow is what we think he is. Webster might not play much either.

For some reason I haven't given up on Webster just yet like a lot of others, but I do see him an Benny in a much diminished role. What will also be interesting to watch will be Miles' patience with Petteway's bad shots and decisions and Pitchfords lack of inside game or rebounding.

First of all, Miles has to use a variety of offensive sets that are difficult to guard and get the kids to execute them properly. Feed the low post and play inside/outside. Get some spot up shooting. Here's one for you-- move without the ball. Don't jog. Change speeds and have a burst to what you do. Wait for screens. Or how about setting up a screen with a v-cut? Speaking of screens, how about an offense that uses some back picks, down screens, maybe some shuffle screen action? And if you're best two players are best when they are going to the hoop, how about at least trying to fast break now and then? Do some of that and the team will not be so easy to guard. Standing around and setting numerous slip picks and pick & pops on the ball and doing very little else has gotten them no where all season long. As bad as the man to man offensive scheme and execution is, the zone offense and press break is worse.

My lineup: Petteway at the point, White and Shields on the wing, Morrow and a post player (maybe Hammond or someone new). Pitchford off the bench or playing the four spot. Fuller & Smith playing major minutes off the bench. I'd play at least 8, maybe more. If a guy bitches because he's being taken out of the game, he would sit for the rest of the game. I would not let Shields shoot any 3 point shots either. My lineup would change to include a traditional point guard if Miles changes his offense and defense. Defensively, they aren't pressuring full court. They are switching picks, but not denying the next pass. That's the closest thing to zone or match up as you can get. In other words, you can play a bigger and slower lineup if you play the style of man defense Miles has been using this year. I would love to see a lineup with a traditional point guard (Smith & Watson rotation) if they did make changes but as it is now, Petteway initiates the offense and Shields usually brings it up against pressure.

Personally I think Pettashooter is gone either way, whether he turns pro or not I don't believe he will be donning the N next year. Maybe then they will get to run some sort of a offense. Time will tell.

Selfless bump to ask HTO why he thinks Pitch may not be back next year. Thanks.

Petteway will not return next year. Graduates in May and won't hang around taking graduate courses that he could care less about. Will try to make NBA a cut or will play in Europe to support his mom. If he plays another year, he will be 24 and maybe too old for NBA.

If Hammond has long-term worth, he should red-shirt next year and get stronger and refine skills. (Wouldn't be surprised if if transferred out of program at end of this year.)

TMiles MUST bring in 2 JUCO a big men to rotate so NU has an inside presence and rebounding. Otherwise, we will continue to get bounded inside and have no inside out passing game.
