I went to the Shockers vs Creighton gameWednesday night.Had to scout the qualities of our next coach.

Scenario: A Shocker fouled one of their guys. It was a one and one situation since there were already 8 fouls for that half. The Creighton player lines up, shoots, and makes the free throw. Official blows the whistle and calls a lane violation on another Creighton player. They talked for a second about it, called the foul over the loud speaker after telling the scorer's table what was going on, and then removed everyone from the lane for his second free throw. He made that free throw also and both were counted. He was there all alone just like during a technical foul situation.

My questions: 1. Have you ever seen this happen? 2. Is that rule ******** since it was his teammate who violated the laneduring the first shot? 3. Why remove everyone from the lane?

I had never seen this happen before and wasn't sure what in the hell was going on.

My guess would have been that the lane violation counted as a turnover and no second shot would have been awarded since the first shot did not actually happen. The lane violation happened first, which would have negated the second shot. So that's a new one to me.

Foul = shoot the second free throw with no players. If foul was on defense, line up again for 1+1 with players and the player fouled is the shooter. If foul on offense, go to other end if 1+1, otherwise put ball in play on baseline.

They could have called a violation, then a foul, but the violation would have disallowed the first free throw and canceled a second chance, so I'd have to see a replay to tell exactly. The foul would still be penalized against the offender.

It looks like the situation was with 5:37 to go in the first half, and that on the front end, there was an offensive foul called on a rebounder. So what they must do in that case is clear the lane and shoot the second one, and then make or miss, the ball reverts to the defensive team due to the offensive foul on the first shot. It looks like that was the fifth foul of the half on Creighton, so it was a non-shooting situation for Wichita. I guess had it been the 8th or more, they would have immediately gone to the other end to shoot free throws.

i went back to check the box score thinking that maybe the announcer stated it wrong. here is what it says. i believe it would state lane violation instead of foul there.

the statement over the loud speakers had the entire place confused.

fyi, i saw something that would make some of the remaining stans supporters happy about Marshall. he made "line changes" twice in the game. he substituted four players at once. i started laughing. at least they all know and play within his offense though. they are one good point guard away from being damn hard to beat.
