We scored almost 90 pts.

We shot 51% from the field.

45% from 3.

80% at the line.

And we got our *** spanked. Just a horrible defensive effort.

by a pretty wide margin.

Totally agree through DS. Everyone says we weren't prepared for the press, but we scored plenty of points. It was defensively where we struggled.

What did our coaching staff do for the last week? We were just as unprepared for Arky as the Akron game.
We got behind and tried to run with them, we should have tried to slow it down more and pound it inside.
Stans always just plays to whatever tempo the other team wants to play, we need to try to dictate the tempo for once.
When Bost has a bad shooting game from outside, we really struggle and he just keeps on firing blanks..
Arky did play well and we got a few bad calls, but I just don't think we were ready for their press... period..

Edit to add... This team plays horrible defense, we need to mix up some zone every now and then for the weak-side help when our guards get beat.
I just don't know where our defense has been the last few years, SWAT really covered up our lack of defense with his shot blocking...
Defense and rebounding has to be a key component to a good team...I just haven't seen it with this team....

We were destroyed and were down by 20 at times because:
-our defense sucked. they had a ton of open 3s, we didnt close out on the shooters quickly enough.
-our ball handling sucked. they picked our pockets multiple times, got into passing lanes multiple times, and forced us to make some really awful passes.

I dont see why both reasons arent valid. If you watched even half that game, you could see that we sucked at both.

We also out rebounded them. It just shows that turnovers and defense are even more important than great offense.

Stansbury go off on his team ala Frank Martin or Bobby Huggins. Even Calipari goes off. Show some discipline and toughness as the leader of the team.

Bost is adequate but not great up top, Steele/Bryant are pretty solid. But Hood is still learning at the 3. So teams can get into the lane on us fairly easily.

Moultrie is an ok help defender but Lewis and Sidney are both way below average there and that's where we get killed.

I'd also really like to see us go zone some and mix it up to try and confuse teams.

I have not re-watched the game but I would bet they hit enough layups in half court that would make the difference in the game. You have to stay between the ball and the goal. Non legal screens I also belive to be an issue. Can a player setting a screen at the top just keep moving around until you have the guard blocked off?

The zone isn't working. They're a little too good to play man-to-man. And we can't shoot for ****.

So what are we going to do?

We're going to lose. But....we can lose with some dignity.

so he is incapable of doing it himself. Fine I can see that and his nice family style personality is probably a major part of his success as a recruiter but why can't he hire an assistant that has the disciplinary side that Stansbury lacks? When the other team is rolling with momentum the in your face "wake up" style seems to me to be the most effective way to change the momentum before you can get into halftime and make adjustments. This never happens with State. When we use our timeouts after the other team is on a momentum roll you don't see the in your face style by the coaching staff EVER! It can't be that way. The inmates can't run the asylum and they do when it comes to Mississippi State Basketball.

and I'm not saying that as a shot at The Recruiter- just stating a fact.<div>
</div><div>They ran good offensive sets and were in constant movement- forcing our defense to work harder than normal- causing breakdowns and confusion</div><div>They pressed us relentlessly</div><div>They were in better shape than us</div><div>
</div><div>They had some solid talent returning- and signed a really good recruiting class. They are going to play really well at home, and struggle some on the road- this season. But once Anderson pulls in another recruiting class this year to match the one Pelphrey left him, they are going to be tough to deal with for awhile.</div>

Pick up 3 cheap fouls in a hurry for no reason then spend the rest of the game playing no defense to avoid fouling.
