It doesn't matter what elite/ranked teams do here or there. What matters is MSU needing to win.

I am not saying MSU does not need to win. But some of you guys act like the world is ending when MSU loses one game just trying to point out other teams lose early in the season all that matters is the overall season not one game played one or two games into the season.

Unless you started following MSU basketball last week, you should be aware that we seem to always be just on the cusp of the tournament only to rejected due to some early season, non-conference, bad losses.

Remember Rider? That game kept us out of the tournament. 11 conference wins and the first time in recent memory an 11 conference win SEC team was left out of the tournament. Simply because we lost to Rider. Remember Charlotte in 07? That game was a huge contributor to keeping us out of the tournament in 07. <div>

</div><div>and every win matters.</div><div>
</div><div>More than anything, I'm SICK of losing to teams we need to beat. We float on the bubble year in and year out because we don't have a name like Kentucky or Duke that already make the difference between a 5 seed and an 8 or 9 seed, we don't need careless losses to hurt us. Also, these losses to teams like Charlotte and Rider hurt even more when we only win 1 or 2 top 50 RPI games a year. Those records become huge in March come selection time. Until we can win enough big games to justify losing "just a game," then it won't bother me, but we don't have much room to mess up.</div>

I'll add a bit to what he said on one point, though.

<div>
<div>The problem is these games against midmajor teams that we lose EVERY FRICKIN' YEAR hurts us big time down the road. It is the difference between us either:</div><div>a) being in the NCAA Tournament or the NIT</div><div>b) being a 6 seed and an 8 seed (HUGE difference)</div>
Regarding point "b" above...
The problem is that most of our fans are satisfied with and proud of our recent showings against #1 seeds (2005 vs Duke, 2008 vs Memphis). While our overall performance in those individual games might have been commendable, we unnecessarily put ourselves in position to play those teams that early in the tournament. For example, consider the 2007-08 season. We were a #8-seed and gave Memphis all they could handle in the 2nd round. But back in November-December that season, we lost games to Southern Illinois, Miami (OH), and South Alabama. None of those losses were as bad as FAU last yearor Rider the year before, but the point remains. We lose games we should win early in the season (every year), and it either costs us a spot in the tournament, or costs us seeding. If we won a couple of those games back in late 2007, maybe we were a #6-seed and we avoid playing the #1-seed in the 2nd round. As said above, it makes a HUGE difference.

Every win matters. And so does every loss.</div>

here's the deal, if we play like we should and take care of business moving forward, the akron L is nothing but a minor bump in the road. if we middle along and lose more OOC games than we should and fail to beat anyone of substance in the SEC, then it'll just be one more thing to bite us in the ***.

the isolated loss to akron in and of itself isn't crippling, if we are on the bubble at the end of the year, it'll be because we never got going and never learned anything.

Now what is your point? It is ok for us to be absolutely out-coached and out-classed by an average Akron team just like we do at the beginning of every season? Is that what you are trying to say. There is no reason we should lose to Akron, and if we do, we should at least look like we have practiced together before. You put a good coach with our players and Akron doesn't even sniff a win against us. Keep your mouth shut.

Parity is abundant in college hoops. By the way, it is cold and damp in New York and I could have sworn I saw coach34 down at wall street this morning handing out condoms . Must have taken his I phone with him.

1 seeds losing in the second round has happened in the past, but I'd much rather beat a much more "beatable" 2 or 3 seed to make it to the Sweet 16 than have to go through a 1 seed in the second round.

Think back to that 07-08 example: We were a "lock," more or less, going into the SEC tournament. We had a decent resume with some pretty key SEC road wins (Bama, a decent Florida team, and a decent South Carolina team), but we also had those losses you mentioned. Pile on that the inability to come through at Vandy (Shan Foster's coming out party), Ole Miss, Arkansas, a mediocre Clemson team at home, and losing to a TERRIBLE Georgia team in the SECT essentially put us back on the bubble. We had the resume to get in, but bubble teams that get in with an at-large bid usually tend to get placed anywhere from a 5 or 6 (names like Kentucky, Duke, UNC), 7, 8, and 9 (teams like us, Clemson, Alabama, etc.), and 10 or 11 for the smaller "Non-BCS" conferences.

ANY team will tell you that the 8, 9 seed matchups are the hardest seeds to advance in because you essentially have to deal with top talent all the way through the tournament. If we want to get to the Sweet 16, or better, our chances are MUCH higher not having to go through a 1 seed in the second round.

It's like Groundhog Day. We do this same **** every year to become a bubble NIT team at the end of the season because of our early season failures. Sick of it.

And so what if it happens all of the time? That doesn't make it acceptable.

Our fanbase is full of pussies when it comes to our basketball program. As long as we beat Ole Miss and finish .500 in SEC play the majority of our fanbase will be happy.

<font style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c0c0c0">Good to see that you are alive an well in the big apple.

Maybe you could let Coach34 some sit with you at the game, that is if he runs out of samples before gametime. Be good experience for him to see a game close up in lower level seating.</font></p>
