I'm not totally crazy about MB, but I was making the point that he is highly respected among his peers...I would suggest to you that if he had the financial resources of even say, someone like TJ at Otis, he could get a lot more accomplished without having to jump thru every type of rope under the sun , so I blame it mostly on the big $$$$$$$$$$ boosters and the perfect examples are the football and baseball upgrades at both schools...one hasuch a problem getting the resources while the other has to have a fan revolt for the $$$$$$$$$ people to help at all...why is this?

Fair enough. I never said he wasn't respected though, just saying I don't believe he is a top ten AD, nor is regarded as such.

Here is another list of top AD's in which he doesn't even crack the list (and they ranked the top 25).

Before you say anything else, 6785 posts with only 476 likes means the board is telling you something.

Nobody "likes" it when their doctor tells them they have a terminal illness but that doesn't make it any less true. Quit drinking the blue Kool Aid. Billy Gillispie and Joker Phillips. Those two decisions alone make me correct here. In another year you can include Fredo Stoops on that list. And oh by the way, MB didn't want to hire Cal.

As everyone knows I have been a huge critic of mitch's stupid (non)support of football for his first ten years (and more, all better now) but I don't think you know what you are talking about with Stoops.

And even if Stoops fails he is going to leave the talent and plan (with the facilities) that shows you can win at UK, that will attract a competent head coach, not make them laugh at the offer.

I loved Stoops until we had eight guys on field against Mizzou on a critical 4th down and by the grace of God they still decided to punt. I have never seen that happen in pro, college or even high school. That's pop warner type crap.

As for Briles, I have daughters and I don't see his culture being any worse than any others for women on campus. As long as college football lowers academic standards to get the top athletes in, this will be a problem.

So lower educated athletes = increased sexual assaults?

So Baylor hires a 64 year old Jim Grobe (same age as Nick Saban btw) to be their coach, yet no one would possibly hire a 60 year old Art Briles. I suppose their is some logic there, but I just can't see it.

We need to hire Briles ASAP! This is the greatest opportunity we'll ever have to get a good football team on the cheap!

because he is last second-hire interim coach, for 5 months only. because he is universally respected for running clean programs that are not rapey.

Other than that, great job comparing the 2 situations!

go ahead, sit back & watch the programs this November who seriously put Briles in their sights to hire for 2017

(sneak peak: none)

ask Ray Rice how future job searches go when you are the perpetrator of the social hot topic issue of the day....him domestic violence, Briles campus sexual assaults.

wow your memory is sharp as a tack bud

I'll never forget the time Tim Couch completed the 4 OT touchdown pass to Stevie Johnson to defeat #1 ranked & eventual national champion Mississippi State. wasn't that awesome?

Some are arguing that because of his age, Briles will not coach again. His age will have nothing to do with that decision. Nick Saban, Mark Dantonio, Bill Snyder, David Cutcliffe, Les Miles and Kirk Ferentz are examples of really successful coaches who are 60+. Do you think any of these guys are going to have problems getting a new contract because of their age? An AD might be scared off because of the investigation going on at Baylor, but no one is going to be worried about the fact he is 60.

pretty big damn difference between a coach who has been at a school 10+ years, around 60, getting a contract extension & an unemployed disgraced coach who is 60+ being hired to build a team anew.

First off, do you think any of those coaches would have a hard time getting a contract to build a new team? What AD in his right mind would say "I don't think we should roll the dice with that Saban guy. He's getting a little long in the tooth." Briles isn't some run on the mill Coach. He took a power 5 bottom feeder and turned them to a constant threat to play for the national title. Before this scandal broke, there are only a handful of schools that would not have made a run for him if he decided to hit the open market, and the only reason those schools would not have jumped into the hunt is because they either couldn't afford him or they already have a superstar coach.

His age will play no factor in a decision on whether or not to hire him. The decision will come down as to whether or not the risk is worth the reward from this scandal. If the NCAA does not get involved with this, and assuming we have seen the worst of this story then he will certainly be back. Just imagine if Auburn goes roughly .500 this year and also loses big in the Iron Bowl. They already fired a coach who was a year removed from a National Title. Do you think they are even going to blink at something like this? Heck, some of their boosters will probably praise him behind the scenes for doing his best to protect the school and the program.

The only difference between Butch Jones and Art Briles is the fact that Baylor decided to give a damn. Well that and the fact that Briles is another stratosphere when it comes to coaching success.I can guarantee there are more programs in the P5 who will follow the Tennessee model than those that will follow the Baylor model.

I don't think some of you, especially the ul fans, realize the climate of sexual assaults on campus. You seem to think "just win baby" is gonna work in the future cause it worked in the past... it's gonna get real expensive for schools to bring in problem child's.

Briles now has a record of hiding sexual abuse. If he gets another job and one of his players rapes a girl.. whether he does everything right or not... that girl will sue, and win a huge settlement.

Athletic dept are made up of people who want to win. Universities are largely made up of politically correct people who don't watch sports. When the university starts to lose funding because of the actions of athletes it will turn quickly against them.

Look at Colorado for example. How have they fared sense their win at all costs teams left a slew of criminal charges in its wake?

You are talking about real universities. AU was on the verge of losing accredidation because of independent study classes that a professor was overseeing that didn't require any attendance, or work. AU claimed they were open to everyone, just by accident 90+% were football players. They were within 2 semesters of not having accredidation, which means their degrees would be basically worthless. They have had alumni who worked as HS counselors change AU signees grades so they can get into school. In fact they have one now, a sr RB, who's counselor did that and was caught. He was put out of school and had to go JUCO 2 years. If AU doesn't have a good season, anything less than 8 wins, 7 if one of them is Bama, and they are looking. Don't think for a second Briles and Petrino won't be the top 2 names on their list. Many wanted Gus gone after last season and Petrino was the guy they wanted. Louisville fans for some reason think he won't leave, no idea how they get that idea, he has done it to them before. But Briles being fired might allow them to breath a little easier because he will probably be number 1 on their list.
