Dunlap is short for a SG

but he supposedly has range as soon as he walks in the gym. Jimmer range. That is desperately needed on a team that shot .27% from 3 last year.

Yea, Darryl Wilson was supposedly too short as well, hope Dunlap works out half as good as that.

I hate to label him the next Daryl Wilson, because Daryl Wilson averaged 25 ppg for his career, and 38 his senior year. Maybe Dunlap is the next Barry Stewart.

Only compared him because both are apparently undersized shooting guards. After reading the CL article I'm just really surprised that Dunlap only scored 14 pts/game in HS. Like you said Daryl Wilson almost score 40/game his senior year in HS.

In response to another response, I noted that maybe he can be the next Barry Stewart. But Barry averaged 23 ppg his senior year. Fred Thomas averaged 19 and Craig Sword 17. Jalen Steele averaged 24 ppg his senior year. Reggie Delk, on the other hand, averaged 15 ppg, although he shared the ball with his brother.

I'm definitely withholding judgment, but we have a class that averaged 14 ppg, 11 ppg, and 10 ppg in high school to add to a team that struggles shooting the ball.

Dunlap went 1-11 in summer allstar game where rising seniors were divided up with north vs south. Saw Dunlap play earlier , concerned with his size, I would say about 5-11 and no pt guard skill set. We have got to sign better. Where is the scoring going to come from? I hear I best signee is the Houston kid from AL. Good offer list. We beat Alcorn for Dunlap. Black transferred to IMG because of grade issues.Black is very limited offensively! He did well in same all star game . He was MVP. He had some issues at wingfield as a JR and almost left program then but got those reconciled.

His TEAM has won back to back state titles. Usually teams don't win with just one player scoring 38 a game. Jordan never won a title without Pippen.

You may be right, but Daryl Wilson's team won the 3A State Championship in Alabama in 1992, the year he averaged 38 ppg, that year and he was named Alabama Mr. Basketball.

Its amazing that he was so lightly recruited. Its probably because he was a Prop 48.

A.I. was 6'0''. Not meaning to compare a kid who averages 14 ppg in high school to A.I. but A.I. was more or less a #2 and was one of the best shooters of all time. I'm not concerned with HIS height.

I'm concerned with how there isn't much height at all on this team. We have a ton of guards, one center who's redshirting, and center who should be playing the 4. We have no one to feed on the inside, and no one has the ability to space the floor. Find a JUCO SF who averages ~20 ppg and shoots above 35% from the 3. JUCO, man.

I'm not overly disappointed with the 3 signees though. Could have been worse, and Dunlap could turn into a good one for us. 6'1'' shouldn't be an issue.

He plays for Gerald Glass at Amanda Elzy right? Glass has to be a great coach for a player like Dunlap who can shoot it. I'd be willing to bet there have been some shooting contests between the 2. From the limited video I've watched of him, he's got mad range and when he shoots those deep 3's it's a nice easy shot. He's not throwing up prayers. He has a nice midrange shot too. Let's hope and pray he can be half the player Super D was for us. If he does, then he was a great pick up.

AI was a scorer, not a shooter. And far from "one of the best shooters of all time".

Carry on.

Don't fault the guy because he knew how to get to the rim. He had a pure shot.

Moving on, I just want some height. With the amount of guards we have one will surface as a shooter, but it won't be any good having 1 if we have 3 other guys out there under 6'8''.

He might've had a pure shot had he shown up to practice...

I was an AI fan. But he was not a pure shooter. Or a great shooter. He was a great scorer.

I can only speak for Dunlap, as I have not seen the other two play at all. At this point in time, I want to call fishwater an idiot for saying we may have wasted a scholly on him -- however, I do realize we both can only make assumptions at this point.

I saw Dunlap play in the 3A (or 4A? I can't remember) championship game in Jackson his sophomore year. My brother-in-law played for Corinth, and Amanda Elzy whipped them. I have seen Elzy play a few more times since then. He was clearly the best player on the court, and I was shocked to find out he was a sophomore after he had drained a couple deep threes. I talked about him with buddies for about a year before I ever heard talk about him on recruiting sites. The only knock I see on him, personally, is that he is somewhat short for a shooting guard. However, his jump shot is beautiful - for lack of a better word. He jumps very high to shoot (much like Ravern Johnson), but he doesn't just sling it up there like Ravern did. In my opinion, his game is like Winzome Frazier. He may be one of the smaller 2-3 guards on our roster next year, but I think he will easily be the purest shooter when he steps on campus. I hope and truly believe he will succeed at Mississippi State, if he puts in the work that is required.

At this point in MSU basketball, it will be a miracle if we get a highly recruited guy. The best we can hope for at this time is to recruit players that show some talent and have a good work ethic. That's not great, but it isn't that bad if we can get a few to work their *** off.

We have been down the prima donna road before. Right now I would take a team of hard working guys that Ray can build on for the next couple of years. Then, if we can catch lighting in a bottle and get that one super talent to join, we would have the foundation to put ourselves back in the upper half.

I can agree with this. I really like the way Rick Ray teams compete and play hard the whole 40 minutes. In two years (the 2015-2016 season), we will hopefully have a 4-year starting center in Gavin Ware, a 4-year starting SG in Sword, a 4-year starting SF in Thomas, a 3-year starting PG in Ready, and hopefully quality backups in Applewhite, Houston, Dunlap, Ndoye, etc. I do think we are still doing poorly recruiting-wise with big men, but I am more than happy with the potential of our guard-play over the next few years even if we don't snag in-state guys (that are a long shot anyway) like Malik Newman. I am excited to see the growth and development of these guys over the next couple years in this system.
