I hate going to that ******** of a stadium for the liberty bowl. Why won't FedEx build a stadium in memphis where it's actually something people may would go to? The university could lease it and play home games in a nice stadium where people may go to them even if they aren't Memohis fans in my opinion. Imagine being on Beale street all day bar hopping as a tailgate getting ripped the going to the game a block or 2 away. Maybe even have the Titans play a home game there every year. The Liberty Bowl wouldn't be as such a ****** bowl then.

It would be tight squeeze for a football stadium downtown.
Definitely be mighty convient though.

Why would an nfl teams ownership agree to go to another city in the same state and play a game meanwhile they have a stadium to pay for in the home city?

Knock the pyramid down and put it there, but isn't Memphis having problems paying for autozone park.

Pyramid is being turned into a bass pro shop

They have actually done some renovations in the liberty bowl in the last few years.

When? Been hearing this for 5 years. Cabelas would be better choice if they want a destination store.

Exactly. I've always thought the Liberty Bowl was a good place to watch a game....very few bad seats, decent concessions, easy to get to, etc. But they have made some significant improvements to the stadium lately...new tailgating area, new jumbotron, new paint and seats, etc. It's much cleaner and nicer than it has been.

Because it would be a huge waste of money. Nobody's going to go see Memphis play no matter how nice their stadium is. And the Titans aren't going to play a game there ever, much less every season.

Then you haven't heard anything true or recent about the Pyramid. Bass Pro Shops has acquired the Pyramid and is spending tens of millions of dollars transforming it into what will be one of the most popular destinations in the Southeast.

Liberty Bowl Stadium has had upgrades and is perfect for the Liberty Bowl game

It would be illogical for the city of Memphis, FedEx or anyone else to replace Liberty Bowl Stadium since there is no NFL team and will not be an NFL team with one in Nashville. There was a move to build a new 35,000 seat arena on the University of Memphis campus, but the university president would not support it and it died. Maybe after you visit the upgraded stadium this year, including the very nice tail gating area called Tiger Lane (on the west side of the stadium where the fairgrounds and Liberty Land used to be) you will be pleased with it. Also tens of millions have been spent on the nearby Overton Square entertainment district, and I'm certain State fans will enjoy it. Also not far from the stadium is the Cooper-Young district which has very good restaurants/bars, art galleries, shops which will entertain the whole family. Although downtown Memphis is popular, there are plenty of other more family friendly entertainment options. Try to go to Beale Street for the Liberty Bowl Parade especially if you have children. My youngest son still talks about that parade and how much fun he had. Memphis has become a very popular tourist destination for good reason, and I hope our fans will banish negative attitudes and go with an open mind--ready to have some fun.

A downtown stadium will never be profitable for the reasons others have cited. The Liberty Bowl can be upgraded though. Tiger Lane is a badass tailgating area and mid-town is a stone's throw away. If you have not been to Cooper Young or Overton Square in a few years, you will be amazed at what is there now.

Downtown is good too, if further away. I think having to take shuttles and transpiration in General is the big rub. If midtown would get out of its own way with the trolly that would be a non-issue.

The Memphis hate is drivel from ignorant people. Memphis is a small city and small southern cities have issues. Don't be a complete idiot and you can have an awesome and safe time in Memphis and the Liberty bowl.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I would kill to have the LB stadium on our campus. There is no better stadium to watch a game. Unfortunately, it is about twice as big as the U of Memphis needs. They also have a new tailgate area that it really nice unless you don't like things like lights and electricity.

I am heading over to Uncle Lou's Chicken in near Orange Mound as we speak. This was once consider one of the rougher areas in Memphis and I do not feel in any way threatened. I can tell you that I have felt just as much at risk in areas of Jackson as I do in some of the bad areas of Memphis. Don't start all the Memphis hate. If you can go to New Orleans, you can come here. Just don't put yourself in stupid situations. As has been mentioned, Tiger Lane Tailgate area is nice. Overton Square and Cooper Young have a lot going on. Here are some recommendations:

Wish I could get the wife to like Uncle Lou's. She prefers Gus's. Of course having a Gus's open up near our house doesn't hurt.
