Beamer on the hot seat?

Donati being behind it is speculation, but the TCU connection with him would be a pretty amazing coincidence otherwise, right?

I agree the Briles as HC wasn't explicitly sold that way, it was even called "conspiracy theory" esque. I just intended to clarify it that way before it becomes the next example of what "everyone" was saying.

Imho, the truth is pretty simple. We needed an OC. Donati had literally just worked with a guy who's looking. Boom. Done. And the guy brings his OL (or assistant OL?) coach.

It's a fact that Donati and Briles were both at TCU at the same time and it would be realistic to think they had some sort of relationship during that time and he may have told Beamer he would make an introduction if Beamer was interested in talking to Briles. What I have no evidence of is that Donati is the one who initiated and pushed for the move. He may have, he may not have and if that were the case and it didn't work out then that gives Beamer the built-in excuse that it's Donati's fault, not his, because he didn't get to hire the guy he wanted. That seems like a poor strategy for a number of reasons.

My main point was how there are so many people who can't seem to be "happy" or hopeful for more than a minute before returning to the pessimism. It wasn't a shot at you, just an observation of the overall tone by many as evidenced by the posts. "Hey! We just won the Super Bowl!"
"Don't get so excited; it's just a plot to make sure we get the last pick in next year's draft." It seems Debbie Downer has brothers. 😄

Ha, true. There are definite tug of wars going on over tampering expectations and the usual fan overexhuberance.

You are absolutely right to that there is no evidence one way or the other how much influence Donati had on the hiring. And rhere probably never will be. You can be sure there will be plenty of posters who have "sources" that all contradict each other though.

That is somewhat what I was alluding to, or at least one option. Wondering if Donati game some behind-the-scenes assurances to the candidates that Beamer isn't going anywhere.

Would that be encouraging at all? Donati would have to be telling people that a 3rd losing season in 4 years is acceptable in that case. ( The obvious alternative being a successful seaon.)

I do expect improvement and do believe a good portal class is very important. It’s delusional to expect a top ranked CFB Playoff team next year. I do agree, Beamer does need to show improvement on the field next year. But to my point, Clemson thought getting the “right” DC would solve all their problems. It didn’t, they were far worse. I like that Beamer cleaned house on offense and has picked a style of offense and is bringing in guys who he believes can run it. I do expect a better result than this past year, just being realistic. He’s still on the hot seat in my book but like what I’ve seen with these hires. As others have noted, our competition isn’t just sitting around , they are working to get better as well. We do have a lot of young talent who have been working to be ready to hit the field. We have some new coaches, still need some portal help so the puzzle is not complete yet. Sure, Indiana has been amazing quickly. Their recruiting class is ranked 33 and last years was 49. They have 17 or so seniors on the depth chart this year. Let’s how they look going forward.
Agreed on all that. Regarding any sort of playoff expectation I don’t think any fan would have thought that, no one should have anyway. The conversation around that was Beamer using the word playoffs in regards to next season. I know the language he used was not a literal guarantee but there’s no point in mentioning it. If he would have left it at “we’ll be full speed ahead for ahead for next season and get this thing figured out” then no one is mentioning 2026 playoffs. Granted, people can read into “figured out” whatever they will, so speaking only for myself that doesn’t require playoffs.

Believe or not, Columbia is an attractive place to live for multiple reasons. That is likely a big draw plus the talent amassed on offense that is untapped potential.
When it comes to college towns, Columbia isn't anywhere near the top of the list.

You'll have to explain the untapped talent on offense. Is it Sellers, the OL, the RBs, Harbor? I don't see it.

I think if things get bad, fans will start not showing up. I watched the Arkansas- Notre Dame game. There looked to be a lot of empty seats. ND blew Ark out on the Hogs home field. Pittman was fired the next day. I think that is how it would evolve here.

Honestly, I think we pride ourselves on still showing up, regardless of how bad it gets, so we will.

Gamecock fans have never not showed up. That's been part of the problem.

It seems Debbie Downer has brothers. 😄
:ROFLMAO: She comes from a large family and most are on this board.

I’ve never seen such whiners but with proud, “blue-blood” Michigan losing their coach due to infidelity, now would be the perfect time for them to jump ship and support a program such as Big Blue. They are a perfect fit.

AD's job is to bring in money and make money. They have all been doing that thanks to the willingness of gamecock fans to accept .500 football.
As others have noted on here, Gamecock football games are, for many, social functions. The game is secondary, if that.

I don't have to tell anyone around here that I've been as down in the mouth as anyone about Beamer and the state of the program, but the last week to 10 days has been objectively good, by any measure.

Yeah, but at least you own it and try to show a balance. For some, that’s impossible to replicate.

Just shows how serious Meeshigan is about football.

Down here, if you lose to your rival, the QB laughs on the sidelines.

Up there, they frame the HC for all sorts of sordid acts and have him arrested. This also gets them out of the buyout so they have the funds for the next HC.

Some play checkers, others play chess. (y)

It's important to ignore the posts that don't fit the narrative though.

CSB may make it to 2027 if he wins 6 or more in 2025 but I’m pretty sure that 4 wins are not good enough. Go Cocks!
