It feels wild that we are still .500 but this OU game is a pivotal moment. Beamer made only his 2nd coach firing ever, over an OL we all saw the issues with. Now OU, a team we beat on rhe road last year, and that has looked beatable vs Auburn and actually got beat fairly convincingly by an average Texas team

He has to have the team perform this week. Ive never felt a game that had so much potential to revive or crush our progress. Finishing 6-6 and 7-6 w a bowl win would be acceptable based on circumstances. A losing record, no. We must have this game

Beamer ain’t going anywhere but will probably finish his tenure here with a similar winning percentage as Muschamp he is close now

Chump finished his tenure here. Why not shame?

No Chump actually was fired 11/15/2020, after the Ole Miss game, with 3 games to go, I remember because once i heard Bobo was named interim coach I immediately wanted chump back to finish the season, then be fired, we were paying him anyways and Tanner was always terrible in hiring coaches when he had a head start, LOL :)

Being fired to me ends one's tenure. I was just asking why Beamer's tenure couldn't end the same way. I wasn't very clear, sorry.

Yeah, people act like Muschamp was abysmal and his tenure here was a disaster. This Saturday will pretty much be the same point in Beamer's tenure as the end of Muschamp's tenure. Muschamp was 28-30 overall and 17-22 in conference. Beamer, with a loss Saturday would be 32-26 overall and 16-21 in conference. Beamer's record is slightly better but not enough to call him a great improvement over Muschamp.

To those (the one in particular) who love to say Beamer has done better than any coach in our history, that bar is pretty low.

Goes to show much personality sways people's opinion.

There's overall not much difference in Beamer's and Muschamp's records. Fans HATED Muschamp. Overall love Beamer.

Spurrier was/is a total *******. The difference was, Spurrier won more than he lost. Muschamp wanted to be that tough, hard nosed, gruff football coach and that is great and you will be the loveable curmudgeon as long as you win. When you are a tough, hard nosed, gruff football coach who loses, people hate you and think you are an *******.

Dietzel. Holtz. Spurrier.

National championships.

And yet that bar remains in place and unbudged.

I'm sure he's a nice guy but I don't love him. I do not think he's a very good coach from an X and O standpoint, and I think he's immature, stubborn, arrogant and thin-skinned.

I think ultimately Shane Beamer is a very good coach. It's historically tough to win double digit games at USC. It's an extremely difficult conference to compete with so many blue bloods on the field and on the recruiting trail and SC just doesn't have the pull that those top tier programs do. That's just the way it is.

This was the point in the Spurrier years where he turned it around... with the help of Lattimore, Jeffrey and Gilmore.

Beamer will need to bring in a bunch of amazing talent right away.

Ok. Let's discuss. Besides being a good human being what makes him a good coach in your opinion?
In 2024 USC won four times over ranked opponents. A program record. He holds the most wins in the first four seasons as any USC head coach. He has drastically improved special teams and produced the number one special teams unit in the country in 2022. He has delivered higher recruiting class rankings and has signed multiple 5 star players. Before Beamer USC averaged between 40-45 in recruiting class rankings, he has established top 25 classes since. In 2024 he was named SEC coach of the year. Also, he’s been a driving force to bring about vast infrastructure improvements for the program.

I agree with some of this, some are good points.

I do not like the "most wins in 4 years" point, as Muschamp had the "most wins in 3 years". And both coincidentally are the only two coaches to have the 12 game schedule their full tenure.

Going off memory, but we averaged much higher in recruiting than you give us credit for. We often, if not predominantly, fell in the low 20's with occasional teens.

Other that, good points imo.

Before Beamer, recruiting was generally about where it has been since he's been at Carolina.

Yeah, seems we have always been upper teens/lower twenties nationally and bottom half or 3rd of the SEC.

For those who think Beamer is Good/Very Good, ask yourself these questions. (Be honest with yourself)
What is his ceiling ?
Could he take us to the playoffs on a consistent level ?
Could he take us to the promiseland ?

Personally I think his ceiling is 9 wins and not on a consistent level. There is nothing on his resume here at SC as a HC that leads me to believe he will ever be more than average/above average.

This argument gets so old trying to compare Muschamp's overall record with Shane's. It is so stupid and silly.

Muschamp wasn't fired from SC because of his overall record. So posting it is almost irrelevant. Muschamp was fired for his last two seasons records.

Muschamp went 4-8 in his second to last season and then was 2-5 when he was fired. So his record for his last 19 games was 6-13. That is why he was fired.

I know a lot of you all don't like Shane and you are trying to use this Muschamp comparison to say he isn't a good coach and you are acting like he is being given preferential treatment over Muschamp. He is NOT! That is silly. It just isn't time to fire him YET, just like Muschamp didn't get fired after going 4-8. It is no different. He didn't get fired until the following season.

Let Beamer finish this season at 4-8 (definitely could happen with the way things are going so far) and then let him start next season 2-5.

You want to know what will happen if that happens? He will be fired JUST LIKE Muschamp. May not be the exact same week but it will follow the same script. You don't get fired after one bad season. You have to be on your way to two bad seasons IN A ROW at a place like SC .

To try and compare overall records and not look at the trajectory of Muschamp's seasons is ridiculous.

Put it another way, let's say Muschamp had the exact same overall winning percentage but his seasons at SC were reversed. Do you think he would have been fired? Nope. No way.

So the argument comparing the two overall records is just silly.

There is zero percent chance Beamer is fired after this year. Zero. Even if they don't win another game. Not unless it is an off the field incident which I don't see happening. Zero percent chance.

Just like Muschamp wasn't fired after a 4-8 season including losing to Appalachian State and getting blown out in the last two games of the season. It took the next season and starting 2-5 before he was fired.

If you think there is any chance Beamer would be fired after this season, you aren't paying attention.

Imho, you get a lot of these comparisons in response to the Shane/Spurrier comparisons.

There was a distinct effort to portray Shane as on the level of Spurrier based on record comparisons. I think its only fair to then compare him to Muschamp.

I agree, and have said several times, that Shane won't be fired this year. Next year is his swing year IF this year goes south.

Very true. One of the biggest defenses of Beamer is comparing his record to SOS. If you can do that, you can compare him to Muschamp as well. Great point!

Without reading each post. i do, Sorta, agree. It willl not affect his tenure next year, but when they take a look at his overall records and see a great drop each year, it will be an issue. So a win this week, would help that, but would also give this squad a little hope that this year can mirror last and possibly be a springboard to a relatively good season, a loss i feel it will spiral out of control and affect recruiting as well as transfer portal entries....

Nobody actually thinks he's going to be fired after this year, no matter how the rest of the season unfolds because we have a VERY low bar for expectations around here.

That said, the record is only one small part of the equation for me. A bigger factor to me is the product on the field. We are sloppy and disorganized and unprepared. On top of that, Beamer has shown either an inability or an unwillingness to critically assess his staff. We saw it first with Satterfield. It has reared its ugly head again with Teasley. Retaining Teasley after last season is one of the most inexplicable coaching decisions I can ever recall. We'd had one of the worst OLs in the entire nation 2 years in a row. Not only did Beamer retain him, he gave him a massive raise. Of course the OL has been our undoing this season. With even just a decent OL, we are sitting at 5-1 right now. His decision to retain Teasley cost us this entire season.

So while I don't think he WILL be fired, I think it would be more than justifiable. It pi**es me off that Beamer's pride and arrogancy cost us this season. No other reason. EVERYONE in the country knew Teasley was terrible. Objectively awful. For some mystifying reason, Beamer stubbornly dug in his heels that the OL really wasn't all that bad. He just refused to admit that Teasley sucked and doubled down by giving him a huge raise. In so doing, with that one decision, he singlehandedly flushed this entire season down the toilet. If we just weren't as good as anticipated, I can handle that. I've seen it a million times. But I can't get over his stubborn refusal to make such an obviously necessary coaching change which in turn cost us a shot at a special season. If he's not stubborn, he's incompetent. Take your pick.

I don't know why this doesn't pi** more fans off. The entire season lost b/c he wouldn't fire an objectively terrible coach. If not for Beamer's stubbornness/incompetence, we're sitting at 5-1 and likely top 10 at this point. This was 100% preventable.

Looking at past history, Donati doesn't seem to have the same low bar expectations.

He does not. And he didn't hire Beamer. All he's seen since he's arrived is crappy football.

I will say...another poster mentioned this and I think it's probably accurate...with all the schools who have fired and who will probably fire coaches this season, it may no be a good cycle for us to look for a coach. Of course, with NIL and the portal and all, what we've seen this season may become more the norm around the sport.

Even if we lose 45-0, this game is NOT "do or die" for Beamer, imho.
