Assuming NC State wins tonight, do you throw Bobby Wahl against the 4-seed? Or do you roll the dice again and hold him and risk going 0-2 and sent packing without ever sending him to the mound.

Many will disagree

but I hold him. You have to be able to beat the 4 seed with your #2 or #3, or possibly a midweek guy.

I guess you have to throw him in a second elimination, but if its against William and Mary, I think about holding him again.

I agree. You should be able to beat the #4 and you maybe even roll the dice against the #2 or 3 in the next game. Seems like we pitched Pigott in the 3rd game a few years back & I was thinking we should have saved him.

Can you risk holding him if you're Bianco though? He already screwed up and don't get Wahl a start in the SEC tourney....could you imagine if they lost to the 4 seed and Wahl didn't pitch a single inning in 4 postseason games?

a pickle indeed

Their season is over if they pitch him and win. No way they knock off a national seed on the road without him. I'd hold him out until Sunday.

You definitely can't hold him until Sunday finals. You could chance it and hold him for the 2nd loser game Sunday morning though. Don't think you can not throw him against William and Mary though.

No way do I pitch Wahl in the second game and would seriously consider holding him out of the third. You cannot beat NC St twice with a committee of pitchers.

Have you watched them play?

There will not likely be a third game, and the rest will not matter.

Yes, they are in a bind.

He's got to pitch Wahl now. OM fans will melt down if they go hom

doesnt matter what strategy books say. They are not trying to win a tournament now. They are trying to have a good showing

Wahl gets on the plan without a pitch and it's a disaster.

We're an average team with one really great pitcher

and a terrible offense. With the exception of Turner our lineup is filled with utility infielders. Our cleanup hitter is a Juco trasnfer from Rio Hondo Junior College with one homerun in two years. Yeah, we're pretty average. It really doesn't matter who we pitch. We're not making it out of this regional and might be done tomorrow.

You don't play regionals to win 1 game. You play it to win the regional. 1 win is no better than 0 wins if it costs you your best chance to win the whole thing. Save Wahl for NC State. Play to win the whole thing or go home.

If they want to have any chance to win the regional, they've got to hold Wahl until the first time they face NC State. Anything else and they're just playing for second or third.

I am amazed at the lack of common sense in this thread. They MUST throw Wahl next game. If you are the top seed, you can gamble with holding your ace back because you usually have enough talent to get the game to that ace with a win or two already in your back pocket. For a team like Ole Miss, the most important game of their season is their next game. You don't play a potential season-ending game without using all your bullets. You throw your ace, get the win, and then hope to get lucky from that point. If you go the other route and save your ace, you don't even get to that point.

Absolute no-brainer...shouldn't even be debatable. Wahl has to start tomorrow.

If Ole Miss came to win the Regional, they must save Wahl. If they're just there to win as many games as they can, then go ahead and throw him.

I think you save him and throw your #3 against Binghamton. But you have to throw him in the 2nd losers bracket game vs. the NC State-W&M loser.

You pitch Wahl. Anything can happen, in the past two weeks Gentry looked like a stud, Girodo looked like a stud and Holder has seemed off. Right now I would rather have Rea at bat with bases loaded than Renfroe. Two months ago that statement would seem insane. Wacky stuff happens in baseball but you have no chance of letting that happen if you are going home on Day 2.

By pitching Wahl today, Ole Miss virtually guaranteed they won't win the Regional. Which if they're OK with that, fine.

But if you aren't winning the Regional anyway, does it really matter if you're 0-2 or 1-2? Play to win the Regional, not just one game.
