Got to go with the Bears on this one. After the opening loss MA has shown improvement each week. I know you can’t always trust score comparison, but North had a bad loss against Elkin (injuries and turnovers played a role, but that’s football) while MA picked up a win over Elkin. I think the key is the NS offensive line. They were absolutely handled by East Surry, which never gave Swartz, Badgett and the other NS weapons a chance. If the Offensive line can give Swartz time, then North Surry has a legit chance. But where things stand right now, I’d have to go with MA.

Going forward to 2020 season I like the stroupe kid he kinda reminds me of a sophomore QB who played at Mt Airy in 2015 being a sophomore he can run the ball he just needs time to learn to read the defense in a year or two this kid will be tuff
Future deff looks bright, I like the stroupe kid to. Deff getting better from week to week. With coach holder working with him in practice every day the improvement is eminent . With a win against north , which is never easy , ( hounds bears being a toss up ) , this young squad could be heading into a bye week 4- 1 and that could easily have been 5-0. With a team that is 80 percent freshman and sophomore based , a 8th grade class that is stacked, and a new weight room that is being put together as we speak the next 4 to 5 years have the potential to be VERY SPECIAL ONES. But for now they continue to grow from week to week and we will see where they stand at seasons end. You better get this team now. Gonna be interesting to see where they are towards the end of the year, defense is playing pretty strong now , and if what I’m hearing about the offensive side of things pan out then I imagine the offense will be dramatically improved in the coming weeks

Always a great game with a lot of pride for both teams giving it their all no matter who is the best on paper. Prayers for no injuries for either team.
Heard from some CC folks that he’s going to be helping at MA the rest of the season.
Unbelievable, if he loses to North Surry send him back to East Wilkes. 22-6 and he blows it ! ! ! I thought the score was going to look like the East Surry score over North Surry but someone is asleep.....At this rate East Surry is going to blow Mount Airy out as bad or worse then they did North Surry and the Bears want get past the first round of the playoffs.

I miss Coach Holder but I understand why he's not coaching right now with a son playing college ball it does seem we are out of sync without him though

I agree with buzzcoach....can't believe they only scored 29 vs my Trojans last week
I saw coach running down the sideline towards the field house at the half only to turn in to the bathroom, ummmmm I just slid back down in my bleacher seat with my bottom lip out .

Mount Airy should have been 4 or 5 TDs better than NS. Can you believe this ?

The Bears will be fine. Y'all need to realize JK is going to be just fine there. Holder isn't the man anymore. The Bears are young. They made some mistakes tonight but at the end they hit the gas pedal and won. Sounds like a fun game.
You scored 50 points why are you complaining?
Next week going to be fun we get to set on our butts and hope East and The big Reildsville game is on radio somewhere hopefully wifm was smart enough to schedule this game if not I'll try live stream the week after East gets there head handed to them we will get our whooping
Dang it. Even though we won , It drives me crazy watching MA. No way we give that many points to NS. This game was either way until NS QB fumbles. Terrible play calling when stopped on forth down.. Why not kick FG. Give NS and their coaching staff all the credit. Personally I felt we where out coached and out play called all night. East will hang a 100 on us. If Smith goes down ????????????????????????????????????????????
If Easts offense plays like they did tonight they will get their head handed to us but lord I feel for MA the next week if East gets beat on a running clock I don’t even wanna know what the MA score will be.
Looking back at the game , it amazes me that MA plays like they do. NS seemed to be so much better coached. MA had better players but NS guys played better across the board. NS with lesser athletes was handing it to us. We could have packed our bags and went to the house if #1 for MA had stayed at NS. If J. Smith goes down, be prepared for some L's. Wouldn't be surprised if South hands us a "L". Unreal...…. Worst coaching around.
That comment I put in bold seems to say you are a Mount Airy Fan from Mount Airy. Always wondered where you were from. Did you slip up ? Always figured you from South or West Stokes.
I'm proud of our guys.. we had that look in our eyes I haven't seen in ages for an MA game on Wendsday when I got off work for practice. The boys were ready.. just our typical bad luck showed up late. Reminds me of the 2013/15 games combined into a game. I hope the younger guys remember this the next couple of years and use it to inspire them. We are young in quite a few spots, but tonight was the first time we showed our potential like I know we got.. we looked a lot like we did when we scrimmaged Salisbury, and we did very well there. I'm pleased as you can be minus not winning. If we stay on this path in conference play and get better on D we will do fine.
#6 Smith won my respect tonight, always thought he was a system guy but he is a specimen. It's been fun watching his journey. Put him on East Surry's or East Forsyth's team or wherever and he would be the man, MA got him and he will be a great for them as long as he stays healthy. That worries me as he has to do a ton of work.

He is still learning but I'm impressed that when he makes a mistake, he puts it out of his mind and doesn't let it affect him on the next play. I've noticed that with him since the first game I saw him in. And he made some good throws tonight. Hit just enough of them to keep the defense honest.
I wasn't surprised by how that game played out, especially after getting to see them both play the same opponent. North Surry's strengths play well against MA's weaknesses. I told someone in the parking lot before the game that MA had to get to Swartz or he'd light up the secondary, and he did. And they ultimately beat him by getting to him in the fourth quarter.
What's funny about this game is that MA misfired multiple times in North Surry territory tonight, twice inside the 10, and another time at the 30, and a lot of people were frustrated at this...and they still scored 50 points on offense.
That's the key. Just got to stop people. There's no one like East Surry in that conference, and I don't see anyone stopping North's offense.

MA scored 57 but with chance to go up 3 scores several times coach overthinking called dumb plays. Runs same play every other play. Running ball down their throats MA gets cute throws int at 5 like keep running it. MA has alot of talent. NS QB was hard to bring down as Bears were all over him all night dam good QB. NS was the better coached team hands down.

Sorry I tell it how I see it and this Coach for MA has alot of talent and a ton coming hope he don't mess it up. Being the coach at MA is different than East Wilkes. 2 years Holder returns just wait. He is already working with our QB during the week.
Great post John, honest post. I get on here and poke at the coach a little bit but forget he is filling big shoes with a group of freshman and sophomore kids. Secondary lacks size and are gonna have to just make up for that by getting more solid , positionally better. They have time to work , improve in the conference leading to east Surry . Bears are gonna be good, by seasons end better than tonight, a lot better. They will take their medicine at reidsville and at east this year, but as strong a program as MA is you have to rebuild sometime. I see this team being a strong contender in the west next year and the coming years. This group their junior and senior year are gonna be NASTY!!! The 8th grade group is gonna be special. I don’t like coach Adkins as a offensive coordinator but I do like him as a head coach. I like the discipline he brings and I also like what he’s putting in place from the weight room side. He is getting the bears ready to transition from an athletic team to a very physical team along with athleticism, there will always be athletes at ma , they have never been a smc physical type team. I think you will see that next year. I think you will see the veer a little as well, if you watch the bears jv team you will see it already. Slash your hounds came to play tonight, you run wild in conference if you play like you played tonight , it’s what a bears hounds game should be . Good luck on the rest of the season
