Need 75 mph winds or Puka gonna have 400 yards.
If the Bears can somehow get some pressure on Stafford, he can be a TO machine--a tall task to ask.

Stop the run, just the way they did in the second half to GB, and I think they have a great chance.

Rams' defense has been suspect as of late--maybe Bears can score a lot of points.

Not sure where you're getting a TO machine, Stafford only has 8 INTs on the season.

88 Over Under is my point but then again, Safford now has to play in the cold.
It's not like Stafford hasn't played in the cold. I am sure you understand future HOFer Matthew Stafford was with the Lions for 12 seasons and played in Green Bay and Chicago every year. I am sure some of those games featured cold weather. If it is present, wind will be more of a factor. especially if it is 20 mph or more.

Yes he played in Detroit for 12 years, in a dome. He's admitted saying he doesn't like playing in the cold.

Bears need to get the run game going and keep it going. Keep the ball out of Stafford's hands as long as possible.

I've come to the conclusion that Bears fans enjoy complaining about the team as much as they like seeing the team win.
I believe they want to see the Bears win but not as much as the 1985 Bears won.
Totally agree. Could be my poor memory, but maybe the lesser amount of verbal and written diarrhea from media 40 years ago was not such of a turn-off as it has become now to many.

There is a great special on the Red Sox that said when they finally won in 2004 that it took some of the fun out of being a fan "We didn't have anything to B**ch about anymore"

With all due respect, a pro defense should be prepared for the complimentary play deep to the outside 1/3 off quick perimeter screen pass action underneath. Every HS offense who runs the latter has what the Bears dialed up for the score. Being solid over the top of any short threat is like Pass Defense 101.

An unbalanced side of a formation with the EMLOS (end man on line-of-scrimmage) on the opposite "nub" side staying in to block even though an eligible TE, falls far short of a "genius" label for either the Commanders or Ben Johnson.

Not calling it genius myself. Just showing you why they were fooled. Doubt they prepped for that

One might think an NFL defense in the 18th game of the season could align and account soundly using their defensive principles against unbalanced sets of the type even HS teams also face.

I guess I am confused here. You watch the NFL week in week out and Ds get confused every game and blow assignments. Sure they should know better but it is the O's job to confuse the D...and sometimes they do. They are not robots. One would also think 18 games into the season the Texas could properly do a shot gun snap in a playoff game, granted it didn't matter.

I agree with you and I think Loveland is the reason this play worked. He was torching the Packers all night. And when Williams made the fake to the sideline I am sure the DB thought the ball was going to him since 15 passes were thrown Loveland's way. A mistake by the DB for sure. Loveland was a great decoy and I think that is where the DB failed. JMO. There are guys who look at tendencies.

Nope, his 48% completion percentage is on everyone else.
A4fan,
We all know you don’t like Caleb Williams you said it every chance you get. Yet you still say you’re a Bears fan. I will say one thing. The Bears would not still be playing if he wasn’t our quarterback. End of story. Time for you to admit he is better than you could have ever imagined. I see him improving each week and by the time he is done playing he will definitely be the best QB the Bears have ever had. Get on board or jump off. Your negative vibe is a buzz kill.

That makes perfect sense for most people in Boston or people who run that city or state. They are more interested in complaining about a problem instead of using the same energy to solve the problem. Because once the problem is fixed the issue goes away and it's really not what they want. Sick, with a loser mentality. But that's how some people think.

:) Excellent post Corey and spot on! Three things. One, no way are you going to get that guy to admit being wrong about anything. Two, he isn't happy unless he's miserable. Three, he likes to argue just to argue.

Caleb will improve his comp % as he ages but when you rank 3rd in explosive plays comp % becomes less important. I would also add that he led the league in lost yards due to drops. Drops happen but he had the short end of the stick this year, that will most likely even out over his career. He makes elite throws very few in the league can make and seems to shine brightest when game is on the line. Those are two things you can't really teach.....

They need to get the running game going, especially in the 1st half. The lack of running game has made the first half look clunky on O and put them in bad 3rd down spots.

Da Bears!
He's had an encouraging year but I'm not going to anoint him after one season. If he can build off this year and continue to improve then the Bears may be onto something. Daniels had an amazing year last year but has dealt with injuries this year, CJ Stroud had one of the best rookie seasons in league history, but has regressed since then. You just never know what will happen with young QBs. Sorry if I can remain objective in my evaluation rather than getting giddy just because he's a Bear.

I want to see him make the ordinary throws look ordinary because being able to make all the "hero ball" throws are fun and entertaining to watch, but it's not sustainable and I would prefer sustained success over a flash in the pan. They say it takes 3 years on average to evaluate a draft class so we'll see what next year brings and I am positive about that because I believe Johnson can fix his accuracy issues which is the main thing he said he wanted from Caleb.

Drops are an issue, but a poor excuse. The Bears have one more dropped pass on the year than the Rams and Stafford is likely to win the MVP. The league leader in drops is the Jags and Lawrence had very comparable numbers to Caleb yet Bears fans don't talk about him being a great QB.

Everyone is excited about Caleb and the Bears, as they should be, but to get the big picture you need to take your Bear goggles off and compare him to other QBs in the league. Just because he's the best QB thr Bears have had in ages is like being the smartest kid on the short bus.

I have zero issue being wrong, it happens countless times every day, and I've said since the draft that I'd love to be wrong on Caleb, and if he comes back next year and the Bears win the division and a playoff game and he's an improved player I will happily eat a big bowl of crow.

Who is using drops as an excuse? I brought it up as a fact as a talking point. The fact is he had more lost yards due to drops than any other QB. Again, it is probably bad luck and will even out like BABIP in baseball. Here is my thing and I am a stat person. Jordan Love puts up very very very nice looking stat lines. But when I watch with my eyes something is missing. If you looked at the final stats from Sat, Love's look way better but when you watch the game, I at least, got a totally different view. Maybe there is unintended bias creeping in but it is not only when I watch Bears/Pack with Love. I agree, he is not a finished product but what he needs to improve on I have full confidence he can and will, especially with his coach. The things he already does well, many of which, you really can't teach.

Anyways, go win a football game on Sunday.

This is an..."interesting" reply. Kind of like...duh! So, Stafford has admitted he doesn't like playing in the cold. So what? If you were to send out a survey of all the players in the NFL simply asking, "do you like playing in the cold?" I guarantee the overwhelming answer would be a hard no. But saying that doesn't mean you can't be productive in it. And NFL players just play in whatever conditions are thrown at them.

Jim McMahon said on more than one occasion he hated playing in cold games in Chicago, especially if it was windy too. When it comes to Stafford, Ben Johnson himself said Stafford played well in cold weather when he was in Detroit.

You say Stafford admitted to not liking playing in the cold, as if he won't play well in it. Then you go on to say the Bears need to keep the ball out of his hands. Well, if he doesn't play well in cold weather keeping the ball out of his hands won't be as great an issue.

I will say again, as I have said many times. The cold itself isn't as big a problem as the wind will be. If it was windy and 30 degrees the conditions would be less favorable than single digits and very calm. Because if it was 30 degrees with a 25-30 mph wind, wind chills will be in the single digits anyway. So, I am going to look at the wind speed first.

Don't get me wrong. Single digit cold...is cold. It will have effects on the ball itself. But both teams will have the weather and the ball to deal with.

What I find VERY interesting are the people who are talking about the cold being an advantage for the Bears while some of the same ones say the Bears organization should build a dome. While I like the cold, I don't see it as this huge advantage. I could be wrong, however.

From the article: "Stafford holds a 1-8 record in games where there is rain/snow, recording 14 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 76.0 passer rating."

Encouraging stat for Bears fans at first glance.

But, how many of those nine snow/rain games were when he was playing for a very mediocre Lions team? And, of those, how many were against a very good Packers divisional opponent?

Just stop the run like they did in the second half against GB. Hopefully, if the Rams are consistently third and 7 - 10 yards to go, Bears should have a better chance to force a 4th down.

Wind could affect passes, but it's for both QBs.

The silence is somewhat deafening in this thread regarding the double f-bombs from Ben Johnson in the post-game locker room Saturday night. I know he has gone down a couple of notches in my wife's book since, but I appreciate the reduction of other male competition anyway. For me, BJ seems to have unfortunately taken himself down to the level of so many of the present-day politicians getting on the f-bomb bandwagon embarrassing themselves and their causes.

It's silent because it's a non issue. You won't find a coach in the league that doesn't talk like that in the locker room. This was just amplified because there were cameras there and in this area because it's Bears/Packers. No one outside of Chicago or GB batted an eye at what was said.

Now who's posturing? Pritzker says he's open to funding infrastructure, which was what the Bears were asking for all along! He was hoping to get the Bears to beg to try and prove he's the big man in the room, figuratively of course, physically it's no question.
