Can't take credit for this, I saw it on another site.

"After winning 28 games in his first four seasons (only 1 off the school record), HOFer Steve Spurrier began his fifth season 5-1, setting a new South Carolina record for most wins in a coach’s first 4.5 seasons, a ridiculous and arbitrary designation he never needed anyone to cite, because he’s Steve Spurrier and not a jumped up nepo baby."

Anyone who thought Shane would be as good a coach as Frank was, has to be disappointed. He is a "nepo baby " whom no one was trying to hire as a Head Coach, OC nor DC. But the geniuses in Columbia fell for the BS from ex-players.

For Beamer to succeed, he has to be able to hire competent people.. Looking at his offensive staff does not give me confidence that he can.

He's incompetent, immature and dumb. Anyone who continues to support him is a fool.

Yeah. I just got a laugh out of the "best record after 4 years" talk.

Muschamp had the best record after 3 years, and Shane after 4 years. It was just coincidence they were the only two coaches to start their runs in the 12 game era.

It'll be nice to just bury that talk. I found it funny that other posters on other boards were mocking the same drivel.

Does Beamer have any 11 win seasons? At this point he can take this garbage to the Hokies if they’ll hire him!

To be fair, Spurrier didn't at this point in his tenure here, either. at the end of his 5th year, he was 44-33 here, with the high point being the 9-5 season in which we made the SEC championship.

While that is true and no one can predict the future, I don't see us sniffing an 11 win season (much less 3 consecutive ones) with Beamer. Yes, we got to 9 last year but we're clearly regressing this season. Spurrier was clearly building something. Shane is clearly not. If we miss a bowl game this year, that is completely unacceptable in year 5 with a new contract.

We lost to the #11 team by 10 points in one of the most hostile places you can play. The schedule we have this year is brutal. OU, Alabama, Ole Piss and A&M are all exceeding expectations. Even Clemson is starting to come around.

Having said that, here is what we are looking at. We have injuries everywhere but especially the OL. We are also inexperienced at WR. Sellers is not himself because of the system he is under. But part of that is that is because everyone has tape on him now. They know his tendencies. Shula is trying to teach him to be more of a dropback passer, but he seems to do better rolling out. The running game has been better the last 2 games, but it is not enough. Then you have Sellers himself who does not seem to be able to read the defenses very well and make quick throws. He holds the ball too long which results in sacks and hurries. I think I saw him once or twice tonight drop the ball over the oncoming linebacker blitz to an open receiver. He just does not see the field. Finally, the playcalling in critical situations is questionable.

SC is working with some serious handicaps this year after surprising everyone last year. This season is probably going to end up like 2023. If it does, I expect to see some transfers out. Heck, I can see where Sellers may decide to transfer out along with Nick Harbor. There may be coaching changes at OC and OL too, but only if the AD presses the issue with Beamer.

It is all a hot mess right now. I don't see any solutions during the season unless the light just comes on for some of these guys.

This “new ERA” of NIL and transfer portal, it is not fair to compare now to then. Beamer is not handling it well, but if he can’t, he needs to be let go. Right now it looks as though he can’t handle it.

You mean this year is starting to look like 2023.

True, spurriers 5th year was 7-5 regular season with bowl loss. At this point, it does not look like we will get to 7 wins this year.

Spurrier 6th year was 9 wins, then 3 straight 11 wins.

In other words, we're hitting the point in spurriers tenure where he started really producing. And the comparison between the two is going to get worse and worse for one side.

But it was a fun historical note for Beamer for a short time. Just like it was for Muschamp.

I don't disagree with either of you. I was stating that there were no 11 win seasons for Spurrier this far into his tenure either. I don't know if Shane can get us going consistently in the right direction, but it's also unfair to compare his level of success the level of success that was achieved later in tenure and career by a guy who knew how to build a program.
