what happens to the money schools offer players that don't sign with them, or any school for that matter? Reason is, with a certain player in a certain year recently (no naming of names), I heard that a certain school dropped a sum of money off at a player's house, then another school did it again (more money mind you) and then another even more. Are teams stupid enough to just give money to players that's not contingent on them signing?

The real question is, are u dumb enough to believe that large sums of illegal recruting money change hands in a bag prior to a formal signing?

Actually, some do. Believe it or not

because you were damn sure about Cam Newton. And since I asked the question, you should assume that I don't know what the hell goes on in those living rooms of recruits.

I don't profess to know step by step details of how a recruit actually gets paid.

But, as stupid as it sounds for a school to pay the dude before he signs....it could also be argued that it would be equally stupid for the recruit to wait until after he signed.

Somebody has to make a leap of faith.....and I have heard stories about the schools being the ones who get torched in these situations.... not the player??

but I always heard Bender took a cash $30k "signing bonus" to the NBA, and that it significantly cut into the unaudited portion of our recruiting budget that year.

i was damn sure about newton. i was as sure as the entire coaching staff was including the head man himself. unfortunately in life things can change quickly without notice as with this situation. as least arrogant and obnoxious as possible, i talked to a few people that are deeply associated with MSU football and the overriding sentiment was that cam newton was a SOLID commit and he has given his word over a dozen times that he would sign with state.

as for a money situation, let's get our terminology correct. "school's" dont offer money. those that represent the athletic program of that "school" in some fashion offer the money. no money in today's world comes directly from the school or an employee of the school.

i assumed that as grown people, all of us on this board understood that illegal things aren't done through normal channels. curly bill if i wanted to give you 50k then i would ask you for your bank account number and wire it to you. if i wanted to give you 50k for a large sum of cocaine then we would have to work out another way.

We were doomed on that one. For recruits today, coke > Bryan hot dogs every time.

AU offered than MSU did? You hate to be outbid but hopefully it was by a lot to make it worth it for him to go back on his word like that.
