"For all the frustrations they've given their fans because they haven't won a championship in the 10-year Andy Reid Era, they've done what, as a fan, I'd like my team to do: They give their fans a chance every July at camp time to think they're going to make the playoffs and have a chance to contend for the Super Bowl. Isn't that what you want, as a fan? A chance, every year? What team every year in this decade has given you that chance? Philadelphia. New England. Indianapolis. Pittsburgh. The Giants, maybe."
That is a direct quote from Peter King in today's MMQB, in reference to the Eagles and Andy Reid.
I think the same can be said for the job Stansbury has done here at MSU. We've won an SEC overall title under him (and a certain guy wearing jorts ruined our chances for advancing further in the NCAA tournament). We've won the west numerous times more than anyone else in the West if I am not mistaken. We've now one 3 SEC tournament titles. He has turned Varnado into a beast, when as a freshman he almost looked poised into becoming a Marcus Campbell clone. Yes, he has not been able to get over the hump in the NCAA tournament but there has been some bad luck involved as well as, (sigh) admittedly, coaching deficiencies.
Maybe Rick Stansbury is evolving as a coach. I would dare say that even Peaches would say that he coached incredibly well the last two or three weeks of this past season. Peaches attributes it mostly to Kodi I realize but Stansbury might have motivated Kodi to hustle and play with more heart the last three weeks of the season than he did at the beginning of the season when he started nine games. Isn't that another characteristic of a good coach, motivation?
Lastly, every October for the past how ever long Stansbury has been here, we've all said that we would have a chance to be a good if not great team for that upcoming year. Is that not good enough? I think it is.
