Gotta give him and the staff credit tonight. Defense actually looked like a defense. I know South Carolina is not that good, but I've been hard on Stoops so I have to say that they did look better tonight. I honestly didn't think he could do it. He proved me wrong.

The defense looked totally different with him calling the plays. Just goes to show that Eliot needs to hit the road.
Proof enough that Elliott is a terrible coordinator, i think.

I thought Eliot should have been gone last year. The EKU and ULL games showed me he wasn't ready to be a DC.
No doubt the SMU loss was bad. But at least with the win tonight there's still a chance. Losing tonight would have all but shut the door on a bowl.
Total 180 from how the defense looked a week ago. I too have been hard on Coach Stoops lately, but I have to give credit where it's due...this defense looked good today. Guys were making tackles and our corners were effective for a change. Now we just need to build momentum and play tough in Tuscaloosa. Not expecting a win, but if our guys go in there and leave every ounce of effort on the field I'll be proud of them. I do think we need to go for broke on a good DC when the seasons over though. Eliot is garbage.
Agreed. There was real improvement on defense, which is what we needed to see. Still not sold on Stoops at all, but saw enough tonight to make me think Elliott is the real problem. But this is big boy football. It's not Stoops' job to protect his friend and do the job Elliott was hired - and paid well - to do.
I'll give him credit when he beat the Vanderbilt Mississippi state and Missouri and gets his team to a bowl game. Tonight's win did not offset the Southern Miss loss. Beating Florida would have but that sure didn't happen.
A week ago against NMST was when Stoops took over the defense. Why did we perform so poorly last week? Him taking over and making calls didn't work against a terrible offense and yet this week it pulls a miracle. Him taking over the defense likely wasn't the reason.
