was seeing all the new young Dog fans including the students have to go through that disappointment and devastation. There were 2 young women in front of me who looked liked they were of Middle Eastern decent standing on their feet all night long cheering and ringing their cowbells. I could tell they really didn't know the game of football too well, but it didn't matter.....they put 1000% of themselves into hoping and trying for us to win that game. That's what hurt. I've been through games like that many times over my MSU life. They haven't. And to see the sadness on their face after the game was just plain sad to me. Our football program has about 30-35K core fans who will go to every game regardless of our beat downs, our record, or even the weather. It's the other 25-30K fans who are trying so hard I worry about. I kept wondering.....how long and how many of them will stick with us? I don't know. I think in their hearts, MSU will always be there, but in their attendance and financial support, maybe not. My brother was one of them back in the 60's. We started one season 4-0, became nationally ranked and the excitement was at a fever pitch. And with an undermanned and terrible Memphis State team up next on the schedule......well, you know what happened. He finished that night throwing his cowbell onto the turf and went to maybe a handful of games over the next 60 years and provided ZERO financial support. We have a lot of alums who are just like him. They're out there somewhere. And I wonder how many more we produced last night just like him. It's sad.

I was at that Memphis State game too. It was 60 years ago. Getting old…..,

I assume it was in Jackson, so not all that many students were able to go to the game. Not only a long drive, but also cost $5 or $6 (which is about $70 or so today). The lone home game was included in the student activity fee.

I had this thought as well. The junior class at msu hasn't seen one sec win at DWS.

I've been watching this for 40 years. I once believed there was such thing as "building a program". So schools would find that coach and build their program. ********. State, Kansas, Kstate, WVU, Minnesota will always be what they are.... give or take a win or two. Indiana will be right back in the crapper when Cig is done. Assuming they don't **** the bed down the stretch this year. Which I bet they do.

anyways, point made.

Wasn’t that the year we had Marcus Rhoden? Little and fast until a big defensive player about killed him. Had serious internal injuries if I remember correctly. Had a copy of the record too.
I think so, Think this song was the Theme song, Dogs were 4 and 0, ranked #4, then lost the rest of the games.

Wasn't that game in Starkville? Mem St coworker has told me the story of that game from his perspective. He said they tried to tear down the goalpost and a fight ensued.

My son is a junior.

His first real game I took him was Auburn in 14.

It’s an altogether different story than 2014 huh? I hate it for all us die hards as well as these young ones giving it all just to get thrilled and watch us literally give a game away. We should’ve punished Texas in all honesty and be a 1 loss team. No excuse for this garbage

My freshman year was 1-10, followed by two 5-6 seasons when we hung our hats on 'beating Southern'. Jackie came and gave us hope with that 13-6 win over Texas in 91. We were so close last night. It will happen.

Actually it was in Starkville. One of the very few.

I played that record until I about wore it out. Got real excited when they played it on the radio. The bubble burst when we lost to Memphis State and it was a disaster after that. Good memories Though. I loved going to games at Scott Field as a kid.

That’s sad to hear about the young ladies. It takes a lot of effort to cheer like that, and when your team folds like a cheap suit it is so deflating. I sat through the end of the JWS Knothead era, and it was the same shît.

We live in TX and my son is dead set on going to State. I’m gonna make him apply to every chemical engineering school in TX (minus TX Tech: I would disown him). He’s already been accepted into then Engineering College at State and has all of his OOS tuition waived. But, all that means is he would be paying full in-state tuition rates.

If he gets a decent off from TAMU, UT or Houston, he‘s gonna have a decision to make: take loans to make up the difference in price or just go to an in-state school. Literally no reason for me to pay more because he somehow got sucked into the dismal life of a State fan. I definitely never pushed it on him.

Yeah, I think my brother told me it was in Jackson. Not 100% sure on that though.

Make sure he applies for everything he can get at MSU. If he's got good grades and a good ACT/SAT score, chances are very high he could get a really nice scholarship. I personally think MSU has one of the top electrical engineering schools in the nation. And their other engineering programs are very good too. If he does go to State, he'll come out as a well prepared engineer and shouldn't have any trouble landing a decent job.
