Central JH also produced Hickey Thonpson.

It's funny how Belleville people are excited and claiming success behind this kid. I will admit it bothers me sometimes but I have grown to accept it. He is where he is at now because of the competition level he went to in Cali. Better players breed better athletes. Playing along side MJ and Kobe daily will make you a better ball player. I am 100% sure that had he stayed at Belleville East he wouldn't be the type of player he is. I will also add that both his older brother and sister went and graduated from East St. Louis. The kid is a great kid and I love the success he is having. I just dislike adults looking for credit.

Credit? I wanted to promote the kid.

But it seems someone's got their feelers all hurt ... but the kid said Belleville, specifically High Street and Central Junior High - to a LA Times reporter, not Norm Sanders of bnd, com. No one coaxed him to promote the glamorous bedroom community of Belleville.

How about this, you can claim Jimmy Connors for East St. Louis (he did go to Althoff though) and we keep this kid and Buddy Ebson - and the dude for Wilco - as Belleville icons.

I was talking general so don't get your feelings all into it. I know what the kid said and I also have know him since he was 4. My point is not where he is from but the sad attempt to pretend as if his skilled set was developed in Belleville. This is more of an example of how lightly we take developing kids into top ball players. Had the kid stayed he wouldn't be where he is. I am thinking of all the talented kids that don't make it based on our conservative way of thinking.

Take it easy, it was supposed to be a nice mention of a kid with roots in IL, not anyone trying to demand credit for the player he is today.

You are right and Crusade I apologies. There is more to it but not from the people on this board. I saw the post here and it took me there a little as the kid is a good kid with a great story. Especially when the entire move was centered around track and field. He jumped 24' as a freshman and got second at state. I can admit when I am wrong.
