So what did week 2 in the NIC 10 show us? It showed us that anything can happen on any given Friday night. The game is played on the field no matter what the predictions are. Three upsets this week in my eyes happened. First was Jefferson over Guilford. Who would have thought this would happen. Is Guilford just not that good this year or is Jefferson finally finding their groove? Then we had Belvidere over Belvidere North. Talk about a shootout first half. Nobody punted in the first half then second half it was all about defense. The Bucs showed that size and numbers do not matter. Now they are looking like a possible playoff team. Then we had Boylan over Auburn. Close game all night. Most of it was 7-7. I would have thought Auburn would have just pulled away after I seen Boylan in week 1 but the Titans wanted it more. Then we had two games that weren't upsets but thought maybe it was going to happen in the Hononegah East game. I kept seeing just a 6-0 game between them and then I finally see Hononegah just pull away. Hononegahs offense is slow starting it seems like. Good to see East put up a fight. Harlem just ran all over Freeport. Freeport seems to be having another down year. This conference always surprises me.

Last Weeks Scores
Belvidere 34 North 24 (Revolinski ran all over North)

Harlem 31 Freeport 7 (IHSA has wrong score on their website)

Boylan 14 Auburn 7 (Best game this week)

Hononegah 28 East 7 (Hononegah offense isn't putting up the numbers we are used to seeing)

Jefferson 26 Guilford 13 (Jefferson gets the monkey off their backs)

Last Week I went 2-3 in predictions

Pretty good matchups for the most part. The loser of North/Auburn will fall 2 games out of 1st place. What a tough 3 week schedule for Boylan - Auburn, Hononegah & Harlem.

Belvidere 31 Jefferson 13
Auburn 21 North 17
Freeport 14 Guilford 13
Harlem 49 East 6
Boylan 21 Hononegah 20

You might think I attended the Crossbones "School of Sandbagging" but I think Boylan might lose to Hononegah after a physically and emotionally draining game against Auburn.

I just don't know with how slow the Hononegah offense gets going. It's a toss up honestly.

Alot to proccess from this weekend. Big, big upsets. I think the biggest one is Jefferson over Guilford.

-Auburn. What a let down. Have to imagine the kids over-looked Boylan after the week 1 blowout over East. This sets up a big game between them and North this week at AHS. I have a feeling Appino and Co. get the kids re-focused and they hang a number on North this week, they have lost to them the last 2 seasons. Kids will be motivated and ready to go.
-Boylan. What a nice surprise. Didn't the Titans lose 3 games by 1-2 points last year? I think we all over-reacted about the 3-6 record last year, myself included. Have changes been made on the coaching staff?
-Jefferson. Great win for the program. Can they get 3-4 wins this year? Are things on the rise? Or is this just a blip on the radar?
-Guilford. What's going on? 0-2, drubbed by Harlem and a loss to Jefferson. Could they be the worst team in the conference? Really, really surprising. Gillfian has been there what 10-15 years? DC is an old North coach (Zaremski). Have they lost the kids?

Week 3 Predictions
Belvidere 35 Jefferson 21
-Bucs pull away late, close game in 1st half. Little bit of a let down from last week and their big win over North. Playoffs are starting to look for real this year.

Auburn 35 North 14
-Auburn gets back on track. Looking for payback, North has won the last two years. Game is on the turf at Auburn which makes a difference.

Freeport 21 Guilford 20
-Freeport gets a win. Guilford to 0-3.

Harlem 31 East 14
-Harlem to 3-0. Still haven't played anybody. Not sure how good they are, will find out much more in the last 6 games of the season.

Hononegah 24 Boylan 14
-Hono gets a big win, offense clicks in the 2nd half. Old North OC (Ryan) is calling plays there now. Boylan has a let down after last weeks upset over Auburn.

Yes, changes have been made on the coaching staff at Boylan. They added 3 coaches, 2 of which have been head coaches in the NIC-10 before. I can tell the difference in the run defense especially.

Zarembski is coaching at Boylan now.

Ding, Ding. You just answered two of my questions in that post. I think the new coaching blood at Boylan has infused a little life back into that program. I just checked the website, Rick Schmitz is a good football mind as well.
