Excellent addition to this class. A young man with a knowledgeable background and certainly a heck of a player being a top 5 consensus fullback nationally.

Get the pieces together and teach the heck out of them. Let's get it going, GBR!!!

It would be funny if Les Miles got an account here because of this. Also, it speaks well of our staff that a coach of Les Miles's caliber would trust his son with them. Welcome aboard.

A big time coach, and 2 former NFL greats are sending their sons to play for Riley at NU. It does speak volumes!
Can't blame Ben Miles for not wanting to play at LSU, or in the SEC. The expectations and the spotlight would have been tough.

Welcome to Nebraska, Ben!

Don't know much about this kid, but i would say, that the state of nebraska can crank out walk on fullbacks and tight ends till the cows come home.
I guess it depends on what you want. If miles is consensus top 5 nationally, as has been stated in this thread, why not offer him a scholarship? If, on the other hand, you are looking for someone to fill the position, sure you could find someone in the state. We've definitely had some good local ones through the years, but that doesn't automatically mean we would have that happen this year. If you have a shot at a top five player no matter what position, don't you take it?

100% agree. If we are looking at utilizing the FB position like we did last year, the find the top guys and offer them. If the FB position was going to be used like Cally and Bo did, then find a walkon.

His TE point is terrible. When was the last time we had a local walkon TE that was great?

When was the last time a TE did anything at NU. We wasted Kyler Reed. Carter had moments last year, but with gaps at DL, DE, OT, G, C. I'd be more inclined to scholly up one of those positions. Fullback isn't one of them.

If a TE is going to be a blocker and situational guy, walkon is the way to go

Bo 'wasted' Reed. The current staff wants to utilize the TE position. Carter had a great second half of the year and is poised to have a very solid season.

Since when do we have gaps at G and C? We literally have kids that are worthy of a scholarship at guard but they aren't high enough quality to burn a scholly there because the position is so deep (Arnold).

With the addition of Miles the huskers are seventh in national ranking among teams with 12 or less verbal commits (rivals).

You are reaching for stats with that one. That being said, I believe this is a very solid recruit. Hell if they are letting Read throw scholarships around they better be using scholarships for real football players, especially ones as higly rated and from great stock like this kid. GREAT get as far as I'm concerned.

He's stating a fact. Those that follow recruiting rankings, and understand them, appreciate him sharing what he did. Nebraska could add eight 5.4 2-stars and have a better "ranking" than #16 Rutgers. The eight doesn't necessarily make our class better, but it does make the ranking higher, before looking further in to it. On July 31.

Welcome Ben, glad to see an offer by Michigan State wasn't enough to change your mind.

Yes, obviously the stats are facts. Would he be putting these numbers up if they only had 5 recruits though? Where is the line drawn? 12 is a pretty random number For every team other than Nebraska.

@HBK4life can answer that, maybe he did when we had five committed. The line is drawn with every commitment and since we just landed #12, it's pretty obvious why that number was picked. There's a 2-page thread where the originator is questioning what happened to recruiting without putting it in perspective. And right now, on July 31, HBK put it in perspective.

UMMMMM, maybe because this is the 12th commit of this class???

Come on now, that's common sense.

Nebraska had the #1 pass efficiency defense among teams that gave up 3750+ passing yards last year.

There's perspective, and there's, like I said, reaching for stats.
If you want a truer idea of where the class stands, go by avg pts/stars. This will reduce the impact current class size which at this point has an unnaturally large impact on the rating.
