Bengals Talk - Time to get Urban at a bargain basement price

Prior to the draft I posted extensively about trading down and taking Rashawn Slater plus getting a couple of 3rds and a 2nd along with that. Slater is a pro bowl starter already for the Chargers. While Chase is clearly a superstar, I still think I was right and that Slater and those later picks would have been better for our long term success but you just can't argue against Chase right now so while I was clearly spot on in wanting Slater and draft picks over Sewell and Chase, I can live with Chase certainly.
You can live with the best rookie WR in the history of the league? Our franchise QB’s buddy? After being picked to finish last in our division, this rook WR helped lead us to a division title, playoff wins over the 1 and 2 seeds, and now a Super Bowl appearance? You sure you can live with that pick?

Yes. Because in turn you got Joe sacked more than any QB in the league. Of course your tiny mind doesn't get that, but I understand. Shiny receiver appeals to your basic neanderthal-esque lack of nuance.

Slater, a pro-bowler already plus the best WR available with our additional 2nd round pick, plus two third rounders (at least) in addition to our existing draft picks and free agent signings would have made a better team than what we have right now. Clearly.

I am agreeing to make it a wash as Chase has been nothing short of spectacular, but that doesn't mean Slater and later round picks weren't at least as good of a short term option and a MUCH better long term option.

People talk about us losing Burrow which is manure as Joe is the franchise at this point and we keep him no matter what, but we will lose Chase. No way we can keep him after we have to pay Joe eventually first. Browns aren't going to cough up the dough and Chase will be a max contract guy for sure.

So you get to the Super Bowl this year so that automatically validates taking Chase, but it was fluky and building on a solid offensive line first was the smarter long term play.

At some point you have to decide if you want one fluky Super Bowl run then Joe gets hurt and Chase signs somewhere else then you wait 30 years AGAIN before you make the Super Bowl, or do you try to build your team for long term success.

Long term success BEGINS with protecting Joe Burrow, not dragging him through the season with the worst pass protection in the league the year after getting him seriously injured (and then doing NOTHING about it to protect him of substance).

Urban Meyer is an unemployed degenerate and a miserable human being and had one of the worst seasons in NFL history.
The Bengals are in the Super Bowl.
All of that is true, but you can add one of the 5 best football coaches alive today as well, which is the only reason the Bengals can afford him.

This thread has turned comical to say the least.

I really love the point about skipping Chase for O line help for the better long term prospects of the team. That’s as if they can’t solve those problems going forward.

My beef with that is it has been 34 YEARS since they’ve gone to a super bowl. 34!!! It simply does not happen this season without Chase and it may never happen again no matter who you draft or what free agent you get.

This is a bird in hand moment. There is absolutely no better scenario than the one that got you to the super bowl, period, end of story. It’s THE goal.

Wouldn’t change a thing…

This OP did not age well, but why anyone would want Urban or think he could be hired at a basement price is beyond comprehension. That said, I hope the Bengals hire Urban. If we have to have a ton of Bungle threads here, it is far more entertaining when they suck.

Priority one is the OLine in off-season this year. Taking Chase was hands down the correct decision and one that Burrow asked for himself.

Neither guy is going anywhere anytime soon. Fully anticipate Bengals resign both guys. Win next Sunday and everything changes for future of franchise.

This was not a "fluky" run. If not for some totally blown games especially early to mid season the Bengals would have been overall #1 seed. Losses to Bears/Jets were total flops...they also had Green Bay on ropes early in season, SF totally winnable...less I forget they tossed the Cleveland game. This was a 12-14 win team.

I guarantee you this isn't a one and done season.

If we're stuck with Zac then at least get somebody like Joe Brady to run the offense. The red zone failures this offseason have been horrific resulting in an avalanche of FGs instead of TDs. Awful play calling bordering on malpractice.

Everything we've accomplished has been in spite of how awful Zac is, not because he's any good. Even the sports shows say that. Nobody thinks Zac is worth a crap.

Even if he wins the Super Bowl today?
If we win the SB today it will be in spite of how awful Zac's run it up the middle on 1st and 2nd down then let Joe figure it out on 3rd and long offense is.

The "Nick" guy that hosts First Things First went on and on about how awful Zac is.

A Bengals loss today will look a lot like our first Cleveland game. Waxed from the jump.

A Bengals win today will have Joe getting the ball out of his hands quickly with no circling backwards trying to duck and spin out of the rush because you'll get killed against LA if you do that. Must be play action 1st down slants and crossing patters, screens, designed rollouts, and max protect packages. Then the running game will work.

Pretty simple, if the first Bengals play of the game is Mixon up the middle for 1 yard we're done. If the first Bengals play of the game is a play action slant to Chase over the middle for 15 then we're in business.

If they shore up the O line the running game will improve. Plus having Burrow throw 40 times a game is not ideal. He may be trying to keep Burrow heathy.

Joe has got to get it through his head the ball must get out of his hands if it isn't there. Primary read to check down to throw it away. Nothing wrong with an incomplete pass today.

Also, if we win the coin toss PLEASE take the ball first. If there is any chance for us to get out in front we have to take it. I want the ball first.

I love it when you post - you drop so many nuggets of wisdom. Like, I would never have guessed that if we only get 1 yard the first play of the game, I can just go ahead and stop watching. WHODATHUNKIT?

Glad the “nick” guy doesn’t think Zac Taylor isn’t any good, a true bengals fan would would find a way to get that info to the bengals front office.

You like to think my posts give you a chance to show your arse because you're a smarmy little prick, I get that.

I am the greatest football analysts to ever live and I especially excel at the draft. Keep throwing popcorn if it makes your blubber lather.

And the O line lost it on the last play.

Doesn't have to be this way but it will be with the Bengals forever. Even if it is given to them they won't take it. They can't take it. They refused to win the Super Bowl today. Said "no thanks" then hunkered down to look at all the shiny objects they can take in the draft to boost ticket sales next year. Our offensive line will be fine they are saying to themselves. We can't raise prices by drafting linemen!

Yes, they extended Sack... er, I mean Zac... to 2026.

I'm now turning all my power and influence on getting two things done: Brady as the OC and Linderbaum as our 1st round pick.
