Has anyone picked him up since his release from Miami? It seems super strange that they trade for him, rework his contract, and then release him during final cuts. He's so good, and I can't find where he's on a roster anywhere?

Not yet, but if he wants to play he'll get picked up eventually - as guys get injured or underperform, someone will grab him as their replacement

I don’t understand him not being picked up. There are not 30 middle linebackers better than him, such a travesty. It’s a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

FWIW, PFF had his 2020 score at 57.8, which isnt very good

Hmm, I assume that goes to a 100. In 2018 he was 80.9, 2019 67.6, then the 57.8. Didn’t realize he had dropped off that much. I remember them on one of the 3 night games several years ago and them raving on him being able to cover WR’s coming across the middle running with them and him being able to run down RB’s that had found a hole and hit the open field. He was a physical specimen so you wouldn’t think he had put on weight. That’s interesting, didn’t watch a ton of Texan games so maybe I missed the drop off.

Hope he gets picked up but it seems his performance is down. He has had a decent career and hopefully stacked some of that money up. He was a good dawg for sure. And one of those guys who wasn't suppose to be good enough to play SEC ball much less NFL. Typical Bulldog over performer

He made it to that 2nd contract, played 6 years. He has made over 28 million and the the last 3 years he made made 22 of the 28. Plus, he got some endorsements, he has been popular.

So, he got paid fairly well for 3 years with initial 2 million signing bonus and had time to learn how to invest and live the NFL life for a few years and then he got paid the bulk of his career earnings. Sounds like the best case scenario to me. I hope he gets a roster spot and continues to play but 6-7 years is a pretty good NFL career, especially if he can walk away healthy. Life after football can be great for him.

From what I can gather he’s just not that good anymore. “Feet permanently stuck in the mud” is how I heard one person describe it. He had a nice career though and made some good money. And who knows he could get another shot.

That gets him to a full pension, that’s not a small thing. He has probably made enough contacts to do just about anything he wants post football.

The issue with McKinney is he is a great run stuffer but one of the worst pass coverage Lbs in the NFL and that has really been his career. Elite at times stopping the run, average at best against the pass and now as he has gotten older and passing is more a part of the game it’s hard to put him on the field.

6 years is twice the average career for NFL linebackers, so, yes, he has had a good run.

Funny you say that. I was just talking to someone who played with him and said Miami was the worst place for him to be because he spends his money on everything and doesn’t save. He said he worries about him when he’s out of the league.

True. That was one of mullen's gifts, finding those hidden gems. BM and Dak are probably the 2 easiest examples of that. And Nickie Fitz.
